oh, why do you weep?

Is it because Sir Terry Wogan, much-loved character from your Blankety Blank telly-watching childhood days has died? Or is because, in order to make the delightfully aromatic onion soup which you're about to devour in a gluttonous frenzy, you had to chop up a whole bunch of onions? I've been expecting the former since Sir Tel was unable to perform his long-standing duties with that little yellow bear in November. I was also expecting the latter, and it was that which brought forth more weeping. So, any tips? I'm not a patient soul, unless I'm in a classroom or dealing with impatient souls, like my MiL or Husband. None of this storing your onions on an icy mountain in Norway for eight months in the care of buxom, virginal, wenches. Or marinating them in boiling water and vinegar overnight. I just need a simple, quick remedy to stop my eyes being affected by the chopping of onions. *sigh*

I loved sir Terry, had forgotten about blankety blank though, and I loved that too.

I loved that programme when I was young. I liked his long, thin microphone. Was never keen on the newer version they did a few years ago.

@Poppylicious I'm not keen on any of the new versions of old quiz shows, they're never quite as good.

@poppylicious I'm told that holding a teaspoon in your mouth while chopping onions will prevent tears, although maybe my wife just told me that to shut me up. Anyway now I'm craving onion soup.

I've tried this. It doesn't work for me! The best way I've found to prevent tears when chopping onions is to get someone else to do it. Sir Terry was a broadcasting God. I will miss his wit.

I used to love his comments on Eurovision. They made my night every year!
