As Luck Would Have It!

My teenage daughter is a huge Hunter Hayes fan (young, up and coming country singer), and she has been to every one of his concerts in Florida since he first started touring. She's even met him in person before as well. So you can imagine her disappointment when she found out that he is coming in concert to Universal Studios in Orlando on Saturday, February 6th, a weekend we will be out of state! I felt so bad for her, but unfortunately due to family commitments we cannot change the date we'll be traveling. Just last night, right before I was about to go to sleep for the night, I was scrolling through Facebook and came across a post by the University of Florida. They just announced that the student government is bringing Hunter Hayes to Gainesville on Wednesday, March 16th, and the concert is FREE to all UF students and faculty! Each student can claim up to four tickets. Since I am an adjunct professor there, I qualify for free tickets! I haven't told my daughter about it yet, but she is going to be crazy excited when she hears the news! Can you believe our luck! Looks like she'll get to see him in concert after all!

Such things are always best when a surprise. I once surprised my then eight year old daughter with Barry Manilow tickets. She knew his concert was sold out, but did not know that I bought tickets within two minutes of them becoming available. I slipped them into his autobiography, which i gave her as a Christmas present. Here is a great idea I had after the concert (darn). I should have sent him flowers backstage with a note (and a picture) telling him that my eight year old daughter loved him and was in the audience. Hint Hint. You never know. He might have called her onstage for a song. Your daughter's favorite might too. Good luck.

My daughter has already met Hunter Hayes twice, once prior to a concert at his tour bus, and once through a meet-and-greet. Both meetings were within about 6 months of each other, and he claims he remembered her. She told him she was going to make up a sign to hold up at the next concert of his she went to, and asked him what it should say in order to get his attention. He actually told her what words to put on her sign (I can't remember what they are), and he said if he saw the sign he would remember. So, at this upcoming concert, if we can get close enough to the stage, she will be holding up the sign he told her to make!

@ElizabethWallace Of course, he could just say things like that to every fan he meets, so I'm not holding my breath on this one! lol But my daughter on the other hand...she probably feels like the most important person in the world because he told her what to write on a sing!

And that's hard to do, considering she's going through the whole teenage thing right now where it's not cool to be seen around her parents! lol

She works so hard in school (she is in an elite program at her high school), that she deserves a nice reward every now and then. Plus, because she works so hard at school, it's nice that she gets an opportunity to blow off steam every now and then and have a good time!

Well that's great news that your daughter will still get to see him in concert. I don't have an artist that i'm obsessed with that i would like to see a million times. Enjoy

Yeah, to say she is slightly infatuated with him is an understatement! But, I'd rather her be infatuated with him than to be in love with some heavy metal, head-bangin' satan-worshiping, deadbeat musician! (Okay, I know that was mean to say that about rock stars, but I was speaking more metaphorically than literally! lol)

@DWDavis I'm more concerned about her being out late on a school night! lol Actually, she's such a night owl that I'm sure the concert will be over well before her normal bedtime.

I have the free tickets I picked up on Tuesday, but I'm going to go online to Ticketmaster tomorrow morning and see if I can get better seats by buying the ones reserved for the general public. Either way, I'll probably wait until this weekend to let her know!

Haha it's okay. He's a young up-and-coming country singer. Slowly gaining popularity here in the US. Very popular with the teenage girls.
