Not something you see every day

frost on the roof of the car

At least not here in southern California. I usually leave early in the morning and go to Starbucks to write. It seldom gets below freezing, though maybe once or twice over the winter, we may notice frost on a few of the neighbors' roofs. The other morning, I got up to leave for Starbucks and found frost on the roof of my car. I had to run my fingers in it for a bit. I took the picture a little later, after the sun had risen. The frost was still there.

Wow, that sounds great for the state. I read that forest fires raged on and on because of hot and dry weather. With this kind of frost, the firefighters can finally take a break.

Happily, the fires have been out for a while. They come in summer and fall, but they're starting to come earlier and last longer every year.

No, I imagine not. I grew up in Wisconsin and in upstate New York so I'm familiar with the snow and cold. It's just not usual for this part of the country.

What it must be like to live somewhere where frost is an event!

That's one reason why so many people move here.

I have lived in southern California, now I live in northern California. I would just like to remind people that frost is not a rare even in ALL of California. We are very familiar with the sight of frost here.

Yes. You have more of a temperate climate up there.

Thanks. I wish I'd done something more creative—drawn a snowflake or something—than merely scribbled with my fingers. Next time.

I was not sure what the picture was of before and after reading what you wrote I understand. I didn't know you had frost in California.

California is a big place. It's quite common in the northern part of the state and not all that uncommon in the south where I live on, say roofs of people's houses a couple times a year. But this was the first time I couple recall seeing it on the roof of my car.

It sure isn't usual for your part of California. Here we deal with this often.

My husband is originally from California. He was doing business in Schenectady, NY some years ago and noticed the rental car came with this spatula-like thing he couldn't identify. It snowed overnight. He figured it out when he saw the windshield in the morning.
