"Private Caller" Phone Calls

I wished there was something I could do about annoying people playing on the telephone. I received a bunch of calls in the middle of the night last night, and it kept me awake all night. I had just dozed off when the phone rang, and I jumped up thinking something bad had happened to one of my family members. I looked at ID, and it said "Private Caller". I feel like this should be so illegal to be able to block your name and number like that. The calls started at 2:15 AM, and continued every fifteen minutes until about 4:30 AM. I would answer the phone, and nobody would say anything.

That would be very annoying. Can you leave the phone off the hook or is it important that people can get through?

I cannot really leave the phone off the hook due to my elderly family might need my help.

@JudyEv it would drive me crazy, there really isn't much you can do about it. I am sorry this is happening.

This is so annoying. I wonder if there is a way that the company could find out the number?

I do not know if they can or not. I get "Private Caller" type calls during the daytime, and it is usually just SPAM calls such as Home Security.

@slund2041 I got 8 calls last month from two unfamiliar numbers, from 1 Am to 3.30 Am.But I did not attend it.I checked the numbers with True Caller and these numbers are listed as Prank calls. They do not know,to whom the number. belongs to.

When the call comes in as a "private Caller" it does not show you a name or number.

How do you handle emergency calls at night? I wished I could unplug phone, but with so many elderly people counting on me it is hard.

@AbbyGreenhill I did not realize that all your elderly love ones have past away. I am sorry about that. I still have both parents, and an aunt that I worry about. It is a good idea to have them let it ring once and then call back.

That is awful!!!! We have a house phone and cell phones. I mute my cell. Only favorite people (family) can get through during an emergency.

@slund2041 I have an iPhone. It will work even if you have the phone shut off.

@DianneN oh okay! I have a cheaper cell phone. I have the type you add minutes each month. I am on Page Plus plan, with a LG phone. Sounds like your iphone has a nice feature.

@fishtiger58 It certainly is scary in the middle of the night to receive a phone call. I would not have thought anything about it, if the call came during the daylight. I guess I am always expecting the worse in life.

Hopefully, it doesn't happen tonight. If it does I have to remind myself not to panic, check to see who the caller is before getting stressing.

Yep! You are absolutely correct. However, I could possible miss an important phone call from ailing parents/aunt.

I get calls like that during the day but never late at night. I don't ever answer the phone unless I recognize the person calling

Yea, I need to focus more on the name and number instead of panicking that something is wrong.

This happened to us some time ago. Now we take the phone off when we go to bed. If something has happened with a family member, we can't do anything anyway in the middle of the night.

If something happens to one of my family members I have to go to them, and help out. I live less than ten minutes away from my parents/aunt so it all works out well. It seems like all sickness is worse at night anyway.

I hate those phone calls too! I usually don't answer them, but I don't get them at night. I would be afraid that it would be an emergency call about one of my loved ones.

I get them all the time in the daytime, and I do not answer those. It is different for me at night.

It should have been hung so your sleep won't be disturbed. Those callers were just making foolishness, and I am so sure, they just laughed out of it.

I am sure they did get a laugh out of it. It will come home to them one day as well, and they will know what it is like to do that to someone. I believe in Karma, and I think it will catch up to wrong doers.
