I said it before and I will say it over and over again... I write not because I have nothing else to do but because I want to do nothing else. Why do you write?

I do it for several reasons: To keep my brain active To keep me out of trouble To get me through winter To make people laugh

@nottoooldtowrite Ok but if you want to be a writer, this is not the site for that. This will never get you into any serious writing gigs if that is what you are looking for.

Nice turn of phrase!! I like it!! I suppose I write mainly to entertain myself and hopefully others. I figure that if I find something funny then someone else surely will too. If I can put a smile on someone's face, even if it's just my own, then it's been worth the time and effort.

@nottoooldtowrite I'm always attracted to clever use of language. That's why I tend to read a lot of classic literature like Dickens and Victor Hugo. I just love the way they phrased things although I know a lot of people find it too flowery!!

@WorDazza well, I love playing with words and writing poems. And I sometimes tend to use flowery language. Well, sometimes I need to beat around a bush to make a rhyme.

Thank you. That's a good reason.. to put a smile on one's face. I am sure you are successful at that. You put one on mine reading your funny discussion earlier and now reading your comment that you liked the turn of phrase.

To communicate. I like how words can find their way on the page. Like how came up with that second sentence. I like that.

That's a great way of putting it. That doesn't really apply to me - I just do a bit of scribbling for fun.

I have hundreds and hundreds of ideas for stories banging around the inside of my head all demanding to be written. I write to thin the herd. Unfortunately, it feels as if for every story I write, ideas for two more take it's place. Not that I'm complaining. Too much.

Some are good at talking their way through various situations, some are good in molding someone's opinion for their personal benefit and there are some who only express themselves through words. Writing is a beautiful form of expression which involves constant contemplation and tiresome editing . :P
