So, the Pope says that Donald Trump is not a Christian, whereas Donald insists that he is. This assumes that the two have a very different view on what constitutes Christianity, but surely one of those two is far better qualified than the other to make that distinction?

Far too many people profess to be Christians but behave in a decidedly un-Christian fashion. This needs to be pointed out more often. Fair play to the Pope for doing it on this occasion!

So we have a pope who speaks his mind in a truthful rather than a political manner. I like that. I'm not a Catholic but I do find this pope encouraging to all Christians. People can describe themselves in any way they like but as far as being a Christian goes I think they need to keep to the basic rules of loving God and treating others as they would like to be treated themselves. This might rule Trump out.

Who's best qualified? God. God knows his heart. Anyone else cannot rightly judge, because (a) they don't have all the facts, and (b) they don't know the person's true heart. In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus warned against judging because "the manner in which you judge is the manner in which you will be judged." How many people in this world think that the pope in particular and the Catholic Church in general aren't "Christian"?

I don't like or respect Donald Trump, but I do believe he should decide whether he is a Christian or not. We each know our own heart and it is separated from the roles we play daily.

I find this a funny dispute. Who cares? It's more important for Trump to be a good poilitician, isn't it? Who will tell him that he isn't?

No one has the right to judge the depth or believeability of one's faith. There are various definitions of being Christian. The Pope opened the door to his faith and the Catholic Church being questioned. You have a specific religion as guilty as Islam for desiring only one faith for all and desiring to return to the good old days of controlling the majority of the populace.

I am not a Catholic but, for me, the person most eligible and with the most right and authority to question another person's faith would be the leader of the oldest and most well-established Church in the world. It is understandable that Trump wouldn't take it lying down. Besides wanting to build walls and not bridges, he is also not noted for his humility. Handsome is as handsome does, as the saying goes!
