So how WAS my 'triple upgrade' hotel room?

I have been ridiculously busy this week and I think it's the first time I've taken a total break from myLot for a few days. Things were just too hectic at work and I had no time to myself. The last thing I had posted before going into 'radio silence' was that I was off to get my apologetic upgrade at a hotel in Amsterdam. Last time I'd visited they overcharged me and I'd been told - after I complained - that they'd upgrade me on my next visit. Since I then disappeared off the site, I hope nobody thought they'd knocked me over the head and thrown me in the canal. Perhaps I should have kept that treat for a longer visit but I booked a night there last minute this week and sent a mail to say - in effect - "Go on then. Impress me!" I got my upgrade - or as the receptionist called it a 'triple upgrade' and the room was very pleasant but I certainly wouldn't have paid a fortune for a bit more space and a living area that I didn't need. I did appreciate getting a big bath and a hand-written welcome note but I didn't need the 'Lego-like' block sofa or the dining table. Sadly I'm so full of cold that I barely slept but I appreciated the effort they went to. With only the option to upload one photo, I've not been able to give you a sense of how big it was. I had a bit of a view - but no better than I get from the office windows. Nice of them to give me a bit of a treat. I'll go back when I can't get into my usual favourite hotel.

It sounds like they put forth an effort and surely that counts for something. The bed in the image is lovely.

I agree with you in that extra space is rather superfluous in a hotel room. After all we mainly use it to sleep, so the size becomes academic.

But you didn't pay for it, right? Really I'd have taken a normal room as long as it was free and been satisfied with that.

@boiboing Hmm... I think I'd have preferred a discount on a normal room.

I paid the normal room of 140 euros for a room that should be charged at a much higher rate.

Interesting bed. Of course where room size is concerned it is nice to be able to walk around the side of the bed and not run into the dresser or chair.

There's a whole second room larger than the bedroom plus an enormous bathroom. Just couldn't get an angle for the rest.

It is always nice to be upgraded even if it gives you things you don't need. I always appreciate the personal note too, a nice touch.

It looks like a beautiful room with a really pretty bed. We would like to see a picture of what is out the window that you saw. They did what they said they would do is a big Plus in my book.

Nice of them to upgrade you, or "triple upgrade" but I hear ya - I wouldn't need extra space either.

At least they made an effort. It's a pretty fancy decoration above the head although it doesn't look that stable.

That might be why I didn't sleep so well: fear of the whole thing falling down in the night.

Glad they pulled through this time for you. Similar to you, I see no reason paying extra for that bit of fancy augmentation.
