$100 Upfront for New Patients

In my previous post, I mentioned that I will follow the suggestion of setting up an appointment for allergy testing. I made the call earlier to an ENT & Sinus Clinic. I have never been to one in here since I do not have any real need of one until now. I was able to get an appointment next month since that is the only available schedule that they can give me. I am totally fine with that since I am not in a hurry anyway. Imagine my surprise when they told me that they require $100 upfront my new patients! My jaw almost dropped. I made the receptionist know that I have insurance; she did let me know in return that they accept our insurance but it’s their policy for new patients to require $100 upfront. Then they will file the claims and when they cover it they will reimburse me. If not, they will apply the $100 to whatever charges I need to settle. That calmed me down a bit, but of course it is a little disappointing. I do understand that maybe they had experiences in the past about bad accounts and uncovered claims. But still, $100 upfront is a little painful.

I have never heard of such a policy. I think it is disgraceful if you have insurance.

I am not really happy with it either. I hope they return my money back as soon as they claimed my insurance.
