Taming The Monster

The last two weeks have been spent sorting and integrating many things from my parents house into my own. It seems every corner has boxes and piles of stuff. Today my father returns to my home, so I need to get this all under control and put away. The closets are already full. Some things will be going home with various siblings over the next few weeks. Some things will be sold, others donated and still othe will quietly disappear into the trash. Getting through all of these piles become frustrating after a while. The chaos of having things everywhere and not knowing where to put them just adds to my stress. Well, I suppose, instead of just sitting hear complaining about it, I should get up and get busy. The photo was just a year ago...moving day.

You have a big job ahead of you, and I'm sure it is not easy. Good luck! I would feel overwhelmed.

Thank you for the good wishes. They will be needed. I would like to just go through most of this stuff once. Now much of it is boxed and in the attic. This means at some future date, we get to carry it all down and sort it out again.

This would be quite a task. I wouldn't like to be doing it. Everything takes space doesn't it, regardless of how little or how much you keep.

It seems to be a new ending task...but I think with a deadline, we can have the house up for sale by the end of next week.

I still have boxes since we moved to Switzerland and I realize that almost ten years have passed.

Yesterday I got rid of a box that I have been moving....storing.....moving......storing.....for the last 20 years. I think about ten years ago. Went through the box and replaced everything. It has been five years since I even opened the box. Yesterday I sent it all to Goodwill.

And that's why people should get rid of 'stuff' they don't NEED! :O)

I know that, you know that....deep down my father knows that. Unfortunately he doesn't want to let go of much of the 'stuff'.

Its hard to do what you are doing but you are doing an important thing. It sounds like you have a plan, a good plan. Take care of yourself too.

I find it really tough to throw things away that have either practical or sentimental value. But there comes a point when you have to do it.

Since we have been married (40 years) we have moved many times. Three times almost very thing we owned had to go into storage. Most of those sentimental things 'hurt' when you get rid of them, but once it's done you move one. He gets upset as we find things (he didn't even remember) and know knows we must pass to someone. Most of the eight children have our houses furnished. We don't have room to bring in big items.

If you don't tackle it....it does not go away, in fact, it grows.
