At least a couple times a year, our little Manitou library holds a reading contest (more a program than a contest, since you're really only competing against yourself.) Right now, we're in the middle of the Exercise Your Mind challenge, which requires you to read eight books by March 9th, 2016. You win a prize for each four books you read. I just picked up my first prize: a book bag, a coupon for Del Taco, and a candy bar. What did I read? Girl in a Band by Kim Gordon, Reckless: My Life as a Pretender by Chrissie Hynde, Cycle of Lies: the Fall of Lance Armstrong by Juliet Macur, and Stories I Tell Myself: Growing up with Hunter S. Thompson by Juan F. Thompson. I'll be sharing my thoughts on those soon. Meanwhile, I'm about to dive into Tim Dorsey's latest Serge Storms novel, Coconut Cowboy. If I can get four more books in by March 9th, I can win free pizza, or even a Kindle Fire tablet. I don't cheat, so I've got some serious reading ahead of me.
