Picked up the home sleep apnea test kit.

My insurance wouldn't cover the sleep apnea test in the sleep center but they sprung for a home test. I went to the sleep center this afternoon after work to pick up the kit and a very helpful employee showed me how to put everything on. There are 2 chest bands, a box that records sound that goes right under my chin, a nose piece, and a pulse/ox meter. I hope that I remember how to do it all in 5 or 6 hours! I am hoping this test will help to show doctors if I have sleep apnea or not. My husband swears yes and I do seem to have all of the symptoms so we shall see. I wonder if this home test shows something if I will have to then do an overnight stay at the sleep center. Stay tuned!

I don't think I'd be able to sleep at all with that kit on me.

@JudyEv Yes, I suppose it's a case of 'needs must'.

I don't think I could either. I have a friend who wears some sort of jaw brace for arthritis. I don't think I could handle that either - but I guess if it's really necessary you can get used to most things.

I didn't know you could buy kits for testing sleep apnoea. I must check if they're available in Australia. I guess they are or else I'm sure you could get them online.

@NJChicaa That's all good then. I know the apparatus has made a difference to some friends. I don't think I need it. I was just curious about it.

I believe you can buy them online if you want. This one I picked up from the local hospital's sleep center. I am doing it all through them and insurance is paying for it.

That is good that they let you do it at home. My son-in-law had this test done a few years ago, got a machine, and now he sleeps better and so does my daughter.

We shall see. I just am hoping that I won't have to do the test twice. That will make me mad because it is the insurance's fault for not approving the sleep center test in the first place.
