Today is the Famous 29th Day of February which is the Leap in every 4th year so that the Gregorian calendars and tides together with the moon's correlate till the end of time.
The "leap day" of 29 February exists for purely astronomical reasons so they say.
FACT IS:
" The leap year's extra day is necessary because of the "messiness" of our Solar System. One Earth year (a complete orbit around the Sun) does not take an exact number of whole days (one complete spin of the Earth on its axis). In fact, it takes 365.2422 days, give or take."
How do you spend the extra day of the year?
Spend it wisely !!

The leap year dates back well before the Gregorian calendar, but it's use was modified on the introduction of the calendar. The main purpose of the Gregorian calendar was to reduce the number of leap years that occur.
Contrary to popular belief, it does not occur every 4 years. The exception occurs when the year ends 00, in which case the year must be divisible by 400 instead of just 4. This reduces the number of leap years every 4 centuries from 100 to 97.
Therefore 1800 and 1900 were not leap years and neither will 2100 or 2200, but 2000 was.

@Inlemay The Gregorian calendar caused a lot of anger in Britain when we first adopted it. Due to those 3 leap years being removed every 400 years, the Gregorian calendar and the Julian calendar drifted apart, with the difference averaging just over 5 minutes per year.
When Britain finally adopted the calendar in 1752 it was necessary to adjust the date to comply, so September 2nd was followed by September 14th.
Many people today get confused when we change the clocks by 1 hour twice a year, so imagine how confusing this must have been.

That is such a fascinating observation or lesson in the Leap year. thank you for adding it to the responses. All these strange things that happen were as a result of some genius with numbers trying to make Normal Man to understand them. Amazing!!

@Inlemay It's the third time I go out to the electronic shop for a netbook problem, that it's brand new and it changes the MAC address randomly every time that I reboot. The gave me a new one half an hour ago, today I do not even want to check, I will see tomorrow if it works.

My mother's neighbour was born on this day. He's in his nineties or twenties, depending upon which way you look at it.

@Inlemay He always says he doesn't like his birthday. I wonder whether he was teased as a kid.

To me, it isn't anything speical, as I haven't done anything special today, no more than I do any other day. I have been texting my daughter, surgfing the interne, coming in here, and crocheting a baby dress that I am hoping to have done by the weekend. Today, is just another day for me like any other day is.

@Inlemay Now, that it is a new day, I am sure that I will enjoy today as well. I will be in here most of the time, except for taking breaks at times. Now that it is a new month, I want to do what I can each day, to reach payout before the end of the month.

I have never really given it much thought. An extra day is nice though.

I think it is also interesting that they add a leap second every once in a while.
