We watched the Oscar show and enjoyed it a lot

The only nominated movie that we had seen at a theater won best picture. I recall hoping that "Spotlight" would win best picture when we saw it. It tells an important story of the Catholic church covering up a long history of child abuse by "celibate" priests. The reporters who broke the story worked closely with the film makers . It is a gripping film and one that deserved the award. The highlight of the entertainment aspect was Lady Gaga accompanying herself on piano singing a nominated song from a film called "the Hunting Ground." The song, "Til it happens to you" was about sexual abuse survivors. She was joined onstage by about 100 survivors at the end of the song. There was a long standing ovation and many teary eyes, including some at my house.

@enlightenedpsych2 There was a reason for that in this second year or all white nominees.

@enlightenedpsych2 She does not choose the nominees. The overwhelmingly older white members vote on nominees. Two years in a row is questionable at the very, very least.

@enlightenedpsych2 Not just this year, two years. There is clearly prejudice at work here, as in most aspects of life in the US.

I didn't watch it because of the different time zone and I had to work here. But I think I have read a lot of news about it and I also watched a bit from the TV news. It is a big event. Finally Leo won the best actor and he has waited for it for 22 years.

I enjoyed watching the Oscars also. I am glad such a valuable film got the Oscar. Glad that Leonardo got the Oscar too. I saw that Madd Max got it for so many things. I haven't seen any of these but have made a list. Hope to see them at some point.

Madd Max seemed to get a lot of technical awards. It is not one I want to see though, due to the extreme violence. I saw the very first one and liked it but that was enough for me. I am really anxious to see Bridge of Spies.

@JamesHxstatic .... Yes, for make up and technical effects. Good for my grandson maybe but not me.

We do not go to the movies much we end up watching most of the shows after they leave the theater, it is so expensive for a large family. I seldom watch any of the awards shows though.

@JamesHiggins ever since I no longer followed the latest movies and don't know all the actors I haven't followed the Oscars. However I will try to catch Lady Gaga's performance on YouTube and some of the highlights.

Glad to read that you enjoyed the show. I've never watched an Oscar ceremony. It doesn't take place at a good time for Europeans.

She is a real talent. I am glad she has toned down her appearance on stage. It distracted from the fact that she has a great voice and is a real gift.

That would have been a very emotional performance. I must see if it's on YouTube or somewhere.
