Several years ago on mylot I first told you about Amyra, the little girl my sister and brother-in-law adopted out of foster care. She was the biggest blessing our family ever had. My mom's dementia was three years in, and getting worse. However, at the time my mom could still talk, and loved to tell people she was a grandmother. Amyra was premature, and spent the first 9 months of her life in the hospital. Even after my sister and BIL took her home she still ended up in the hospital on occasion because of pneumonia (she still occasionally has breathing treatments at home when she gets a cold). Her lungs were underdeveloped, she had a hole in her heart, and they fed her through a tube in her stomach. The hole in her heart has been repaired, she was off oxygen by three years old, and around that time they sewed up the hole in her stomach because she could chew and swallow enough calories for a child of her size. Hopefully, this picture taken recently shows up. She has glasses, which is fairly usual for a preemie, but her eye doctor said her vision should catch up in a few years. So here is my little Amyra, at 4 1/2 years old.

She is beautiful Ambie. I remember how proud you were to become an aunt, you were so excited when little Amyra came into your life.

She's a little cutie, she's a very nice smile and a warmth in her little eyes. Its nice that she brought the family closer during that difficult time when your Mom was ill. I'm sure that she lifted her spirits.

Yes, she did! Near the end when my mom could barely remember how to speak, my mom would always find two or three words whenever she saw Amyra. She was magic to my mom.

We thought she'd be smaller since she's a preemie, but she's back to normal, which is a blessing.

So happy they could adopt and she could be adopted! I too am an "adopt from foster care" mom.
