In our daily life, we often tend to go with opinion which is approved by majority of people. But is that how it should be? Should it be taken as granted that majority is always correct, infact that's how our governments are formed, what way will you go?

I'd be more inclined to believe that the majority is incorrect simply because mob mentality is such a dangerous thing to deal with. People don't think for themselves when they have others to do it for them.

@avi256 I think so... there's such a thing as the tyranny of the majority. Just because it's the popular choice doesn't mean it's the right one.

@yukimori I agree to your thought. I feel we need to strike a balance between going with majority and applying our own perception and thoughts. The more people will realize the power of questioning, the lesser there will be majority driven ideas.

@yukimori I think going with majority has been embedded in our value system from long back. The way society works in most parts of the world is how majority defines it. Whether it is about marriage ,education, religion, culture or ethics, the majority overrides it. The most powerful concept of voting also is based on theory that majority is always right. Is it time we need to rethink how we evaluate?

I think it is the most stupid thing. Most of the people seems a flock of sheep and it make me sad how they are unhappy without knowing it (I refer to the people who wants to have a lot of money, be famous, succeed, lie for manage something, is tricked by others...)

I feel its human tendency to feel safe or guarded or may be at balance when they are with majority. Its the acceptance that you get with the majority that gives one a comfort zone. The biggest drawback of going with majority is you refuse to create your own idea or concept or theory or perception about anything.

Noah, Jesus, Columbus, Galileo, saw things way ahead of the majority. Some manipulate the majority, like Hitler. Some force the majority, like Mao. It seems to me that the majority does not want what is good, loving, kind, fair, just, etc. It seems that the majority is selfish and greedy and unloving. Look at the state of the world. I think it is going in the wrong direction. What about you?

I think how good or bad a majority is depends on who are at the top and driving that majority. It depends on what intentions that majority is carrying through it. If a majority is working towards a noble cause , it could a boon.

History teaches us that the majority can be very wrong. Nazi Germany and the Third Reich are the best example. It's always advisable to think for yourself.
