Traveling Alone

If there's one thing that I've been depriving myself of, it's the time to travel. Even if I do travel, it's usually work-related, though somehow I have been able to squeeze in some fun while away from where I live and work. Last week, I went up in the air, hit the road, and crossed the sea to go to Bohol and Cebu, two of the most beautiful islands in the Philippines. I was not able to wander around Bohol because the whole time I was there, I was working. Though I really appreciated nature's wonders while traveling by land to the site, I did not even have a minute to take a picture of the hills at both sides of the road. It's okay because I had a great time in Cebu, nonetheless. But what I appreciated most about my little adventure was how I enjoyed traveling alone. I had to go on my own because we are all hard-pressed at work, that that week only a handful remained in the office. Most of us went to the field. I actually found traveling alone a liberating experience. In-between work, it was as if I was on a soul-searching journey. And I just realized that I find comfort in solitude. I don't know if I should be bothered by my new realizations but somehow I think that I enjoyed my solo flight only because it took me away from all the pressures at work and at home. I might do it again, but I don't know if I will do it many times in the future. How about you? Have you ever traveled alone? How was the experience?

By the way , that picture of Simala Monatery is beautiful . Someday, together with my husband and daughter , we will visit that place too. It's so big , i wonder if each nun occupies one room ?

@SIMPLYD you should visit it my friend. it's really a sight to behold. though considering cebu traffic, it will take you 2-3 hours to go there. it's in sibonga, cebu so it's outside the cities, nearest city is carcar. you can buy shoes and chicharon on your way back lol

You know, this place used to be a small chapel. But it's considered miraculous so it received a lot of contributions so the nuns were able to create this majestic shrine. It's really very beautiful. you should go there

@abhinalstrikr i like that -- "ultimate peace." for me, it sounds like inner peace, the peace that you ultimately find inside.

I prefer to travel alone. There is no hang ups waiting for the others to have final decision. It is time consuming to wait others while traveling.

you're right. it's especially annoying if you're with someone who arrives late and is so slow in everything he/she does.

I travel alone all the time on vacations! It's great, you get to do exactly what you want. My second favourite is travel with 1 other person. I simply don't do group travels

...and the other person may not necessarily be romantically linked to you?

during those times that you traveled alone, did you go out of the country? i am thinking how different it would be if the travel is abroad.

@MALUSE Right. I should have guessed that. It would have been really tough to travel out of the country alone. But I also wonder how will that feel.

I don't think I'd be very good travelling alone. I'm not really brave enough. I do like being on my own though.

Well, there's always a first time. But yeah, many people would prefer traveling with company.

I haven't had the chance to travel alone. Maybe someday I'll be able to, but so far I haven't travelled alone.

I never feel to travel alone rather I feel to travel with my family members and with it I enjoy a lot, chatting, playing, singing etc., while traveling.

Yes, i always travel alone specially when i go to Aritao , Nueva Viscaya for a vacation . Though , because i am a nervous person , i didn't pursue learning how to drive a car . It will always be hubby to drive the car , whenever we go to our hometown . But usually i go there alone, so i commute . I admire you for having the courage to drive alone . I guess , i can't do that specially that it's a long distance one , even if i know how to drive .

I usually travel with someone and have been to many destinations. 25 different countries and almost all of the 50 states in the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii. I understand how you feel about traveling alone however, because you don't have to keep up with someone else and have the freedom to do what you want, for the most part. I have never been to the Philippines, but have a friend who is from there. Gandang Buhay!
