Helping a drug addict

I lost a drug addict friend who came to me seeking help. I tried to help him overcome addiction, however, it did not work. He died. I feel sad but I don't feel guilty, feeling of guild is detrimental for your mental health. Don't blame yourself for your failed attempt in helping people.
