Anne's Radical Idea

We have lived in this house for nearly fifteen months now. When we moved in, SheWhodecides placed the various counter top appliances around the not too large kitchen, a toaster here, a coffeemaker there, the Cuisinart in a tall cupboard, a toaster oven somewhere else. The problem with the placement has been the coffee maker. It sits on a shallow counter right next to the stove with the coffee canister behind it. When we pour coffee into our cups, in a devil may care way, some drips onto the kitchen floor. Someone does not always mop up the dribbles. Just this morning, SheWhocreatesspace came up with the idea of moving the coffee maker to the opposite side of the kitchen where the toaster oven now sits on a much deeper counter. Now, when we poor the coffee, if it drips, it will be over the counter. Of course, I will be looking for the coffee pot in the wrong place for six months. It is odd that this simple solution did not occur to us a year ago. Do you reorganize your kitchen or other rooms very often?

I wish I could reorganize my kitchen. However, I have one small, and I mean small, counter that has as much on it as I can put there. The coffee maker, which sees no action on most days, is there somewhere. It's for visitors since no one here drinks coffee. Or if they do, it might see action once every six months. I hope it doesn't take you that long to get used to where Shewhocreatesspace moved the coffee maker.

@Marty1 I'm a tea drinker, and once in a while I'll put water in it for tea, just so it gets some use I'm sorry your dad was injured at work and had to retire early.

@Marty1 That's funny. They make more than green tea. I like all kinds. I started out with orange peko and black, and gradually moved into the herbal teas and fruity teas. My favorite right now is Vanilla Chai. It also makes the kitchen smell nice when I make a cup.

I like green tea a lot, most teas really, but drink a lot of coffee too, no later than 4 PM. We have a cup of Sleepy Time tea every night too.

We moved here 4 years ago and I am still not happy with the coffee "station". So, I keep moving it.

I have moved the coffee maker twice in 2 years, I also really don't like the location on my counter but it's next to the sink, so I keep it there.

It does seem to go on and on, this organizing thing.

@beaniefanatic13 Yes I moved it further from the sink because the canisters and cups were there. But it is not ideal. Have to keep thinking.

I do not reorganize my kitchen or other rooms very often, but sometimes I move the appliances if it seems that they could be more accessible.

@JamesHxstatic I also believe that this is the best way. Sometimes you realize that something is not easily accessible and an adjustment is needed.

I suppose that being flexible is the best way to deal with that organizing thing.

We used to charge phones and cameras in a less than ideal place but we've changed that too. I've also moved a massive casserole that we rarely use to a bottom shelf rather than a more handy shelf. It now holds the kitchen baking trays which get a lot of use.

It does seem we reorganize often. What is fun is to have visitors suggest how a space might work better with certain changes.

Not very often. I'd hate to get lost in my own house and not make it to work.

I pretty much put things in place when I move into a new abode, then let the things migrate to where it's most comfortable and useful all 'round. Sometimes a solution to awkward placement doesn't come until much later. And like you, I have to retrain myself to go to the new spot, such (re)training takes a very long time for me too.

One and done. I have almost nothing on my counters (just a few cute little practical things like salt and pepper shakers I bought in South Africa and a cute "Aunt Jemima cookie jar). The only appliance is the toaster which sits back against the wall unless needed. I like having negative space. It is calming and serene.

I organize my drawers pretty often because I tend to make a bit of a mess.

I move things around the kitchen counters all the time. After you have lived in a place for a bit you can get a better feel for things and something that you thought in the beginning would be perfect in a certain spot, you later find it's inconvenient or it makes a bigger mess, as is the case with your coffee pot. I try things out in different spaces to see what looks less cluttered and things that aren't used on a regular bases, for me, I don't like sitting on the counter just taking up space. That is except for my mixer, the kitchen aid mixer has been moved around on the kitchen counter several times, and while it isn't used all the time, it's to large and heavy to get it out of a cabinet, also the size and weight needs to be on a bottom shelf and it just won't fit. My husband gets board and moves furniture around every few months to give it a new look, I guess, the only thing I dislike about it is helping him to move things and having to set up the tv stuff for him. I hope it doesn't take 6 months to re-acclimate yourself to the new position of the coffee maker.

I can't believe it's been that long since you moved to that house James. I remember following your moving saga when you wrote about it on Bubblews. Lol about taking so long to find the best place for the coffee maker!

I'm busy reorganizing my kitchen now and moved my silverware drawer and I'm constantly opening the old drawer to look for it. I can totally relate to you moving your coffee pot

Once we're happy with it, it stays where it is. it took us a couple of months to decide...But we've been here for about 12 years now and things are the same...
