Random Word Post – areaway

I find a random word by flipping through my 2003 The New Webster’s Concise Dictionary and write a quick – often silly – little post about it. # “areaway – 1 A small sunken passageway to a basement door. 2 A passageway, as from one building to another.” To me, areaway sounds like it should be for some big, open thing; like maybe something going into a grand ballroom or something. It doesn’t sound like it should fit a sunken passageway. That should be a bit more claustrophobic sounding.

Well mine is quite different from your opinion or interpretation. The word itself means literally that the person talking is out. Isn't it funny?
