Do You Pick Up Change You See On The Ground?

I always do and I keep an eye out for it too. It's great to find quarters but I also pick up dimes and nickels and even pennies. Pennies from heaven and all that jazz. The change I find is saved in a coffee can. When it gets full I cash it in at a Coinstar. There was a Bubblews member who had a blog devoted to found money - she looked every day and kept track of her findings. I don't know if she migrated here or not. Yesterday I spotted 35 cents in the parking lot at work. Of course I picked it up and considered it a bit of exercise like touching your toes. Do you bother to pick up change? I have always picked up loose change off the ground, and I seem to have an eye for finding it! I also keep it in a piggy bank until it's full, and then I take it down to the bank and deposit it into my kids' savings accounts. One time, I was curious as to exactly how much change I was finding on the ground, so I wrote down the amount every day for two months. I was averaging 11 cents a day in found money during the course of those two months. That's $3.30 a month I am finding on the ground...much more than the interest I am earning in my savings accounts!

Not bad for free money. I once found a $20 bill on the sidewalk - made my day :)

@suziecat7 @moffittjc The other day hubby needed gas in the car but had forgotten to take money in the morning to get it. He was rummaging through the money we keep in the car for emergencies (it is only a couple dollar bills and some change) when he noticed a piece of paper on the ground in the parking lot. He was going to pick it up and throw it out when he realized it was a twenty dollar bill! He had plenty of gas to get to work and back home after that.

@suziecat7 The last time I found $20 on the ground, I had just been in a parking lot fender bender (another car backed into me), and I was sitting on the curb waiting for the police to arrive when a gentle breeze blew a $20 bill right into my lap!

Wow that is a lot 35 cents! Lucky you suzie. I do indeed but usually it is pennies. I pick them up because we are superstitious..it is lucky to do so. Nice pick of a song too.

I would rather bother to pick up currency notes, if lying on the road/parking lot rather than change.

Yes, I always pick up change off the ground unless there is a child with or near me. Then, I will point out the money to the child and let them get it.

@suziecat7 Thank you. Yes, children view it as a huge find, and I love to see how excited they get over even a penny! That is worth far more than money, in my opinion.

Billie Holiday could sing a song couldn't she? My daughter finds change and paper money all over the place. She is very lucky.

I do pick up change when I see it, but it is never very much, just a few cents, here and there. It all adds up in the end though, as every little bit helps.

@suziecat7 I haven't picked up in a very long time though. I don't really look for them when I am walking, or expect to find any either.

I always pick them up, I just can't stand money lying around anywhere or the thought of leaving it as it is , I don't know if it is just me but I consider it bad luck cause any form of money for me is grace, it has to be placed in a proper place, that's what my father taught me.

Oh yes... I think that it's bad luck if you don't pick it up!! I have no idea where I picked up that superstition... but it has always been in the back of my mind. Here's to lots more pennies for our lucky jars!

I've never heard the bad luck theory but I have heard that when you find a penny, it's someone in heaven saying hello.

@suziecat7 and I never heard that finding a penny meant someone was saying hello from heaven! I like that!! :)

Yes I pick up money when I see it. Where I used to work there was a woman that told me if a penny was not heads up then to pick it up would bring bad luck.

@suziecat7 Yes, I would pick it up anyway. And if the woman noticed me and said, "Don't pick it up unless it's heads up," I didn't pay and attention to her.

Most of the time, most people wouldn't care if they find a cent or a dime on the street since they believe it does not have much of a value. As a single unit though they would not be worth much but as they are collected and compiled, it would be worth something. After all, you cannot make a dollar without pennies or dimes, eh? Well, for me, I also like to pick up cents and coins on the ground whenever I see them since I collect coins as well and put them on a container. And after I collect a fair amount of money, I save them on the bank. Kudos~!

I pick up any money I see. I remember that lady from Bubblews. She came to mind as I began reading your post and I scrolled up to check your name again to see if it might be the same person. Then read on and discovered it wasn't. I don't think she can be here as I haven't seen any posts about it - other than yours of course.
