Green Grows The Grass

I decided today was the day for the first cut on our grass . What a job that turned out to be. The grass was still growing in December but it was to wet to mow, so by the time March arrived it must have been six inches long and really thick. Using the fly mow as the petrol mower was to heavy and would not have coped with the length of the grass. I cannot remember how many times I emptied the grass box , I gave up counting after 20 times. The weather was beautiful today sunny and chilly but very nice to be out in the air. Half way through the grass mowing I was praying for rain so I could have an excuse to stop. No such luck but at least it is now manageable and next time it will take me ten minutes instead of an hour.

@suzzy3 It took so long because it was the first after a long time. Next time it will be easier. But now that it is done don't you feel a sense of accomplishment?

The whole garden will take about 40 minutes on the next mow . We do have rather a lot of grass and will be using the petrol mower next time. Nice to be able to get out in the air.

That must have been too difficult for you to cut the grass as seasoned grass becomes too hard as well. I have a lawn on the terrace. It has grown too tall but I have no plants to mow it as I like it that way. It cools our downstairs.

Well if it keeps you cool leave it. Nice bit of shade.

Well done to you for getting it done. I'm away from home at the moment, but mine will need doing when I get back.

I hope you have enough energy after your break to face the grass.

@suzzy3 You know what they say - you need a holiday in order to get over your holiday!

We should have another couple of weeks before we need to begin cutting the grass. Spring is starting to show. I saw my first robin today, the red winged blackbirds are back, the snowdrops are blooming.

We have robins all year round and we have black black birds. Our snow drops and daffodils are already through. We have had an early spring this year as our winter was quite mild. A bit cold but very miserable. Happy days outside lay ahead.

Rain is something we could do without in our area. Had enough of that.

I don't have that problem here as it doesn't seem as if the grass has grown at all this winter. It does take a long time with the first mowing after the winter.

Our grass normally stops growing in November after the first frosts but it has been so mild and wet all winter. Normally it has only just started growing at this time of the year.
