Random Word Post – pier glass

I find a random word by flipping through my 2003 The New Webster’s Concise Dictionary and write a quick – often silly – little post about it. # “pier glass – A large, high mirror originally intended to fill the space between two openings in the wall.” So why not just have a wall, and hang a mirror on said wall? Or is it a load-bearing mirror?

I would rather fill in the space and hang the mirror on the wall.

A pier glass or pier mirror i think is just for aesthetic purposes and not load bearing. A mirror when used in the interior design of a building or a house gives the illusion of a wider space.
