Is Telsra the solution to Philippines' problem with overpriced slow internet?

Pldt is the best telecom in the Philippines right now when it comes to speed but their price is too expensive that even some telcoms from richer countries are cheaper than theirs. PLDT is also unforgiving if you paid your bills late. Globe,Smart and Sun have have a cheaper service but they have ridiculously slow once you reached the limit of their data cap. I don't much about Sky cable aside from their service is a package deal of Internet and television cable service so I won't criticize them. Because we have a high demand of internet but very few telcoms ,Most internet service here are over priced and slow. Things may changed though because I heard the Australian telcom Telsra will have a Philippine Branch. I don't know how their service in Australia were but who knows they might be the game changer Filipinos were waiting for. If Telsra will be able to offer cheaper and faster internet, the major telcoms here might finally improve their service. I heard India have cheaper internet than the Philippines because they have more Telcoms so the competition is more fierce. The lack of competition is the reason why we have the services we have here and they were less competitive.

I lost hope again because just a few days ago, I heard in the news that the joint venture of Telstra and SMC was scrapped. We will no longer have Telstra... But SMC promised to continue with the plans of offering faster connections in the future. Well, let us wait and see. But right now, I am not expecting much.

I hope San Miguel will pull through even without Telsra and finally give us fast and affordable internet that we deserve. I wish a Telcom from South Korea,Japan and Hong Kong will make it here because they have the fastest internet.

Is it not possible for the government to intervene about the fastness of the internet service like make a bill that they should have at least this fastness for a certain price ?

There is a Presidential candidate who promises to do something about our super slow internet. We are the 2nd slowest internet in the world and the slow service is over priced. We need foreign telecom companies to humble our local telcoms.

I agree with you there. If PLDT will have a competition though they are a stable company already, they will still be more challenged to improve their service as well as the fees.

I just receive a news that the telsra plan didnt pull through. PLDT might have succeeded on blocking them.

They were threatened because their overpriced service will be in trouble. I mean A European country like Portugal have cheaper internet than PLDT, we are a 3rd world country and we have lower cost of living, How come our internet is more expensive than a European country.

I heard the government is asking the major telcoms to remove data cap but they refuse to do so. I also heard PLDT sued Telsra. I do hope Telsra Philippines will commence. Most Asian countries actually have fast internet. It is so embarrassing that poorer countries have faster internet than us. Because if the high demand are telcoms became greedy.

@Lucky15 I hate Globe and Smart, they were freaking charging people for watching Youtube videos with their data cap. They think the only thing people do online is Facebook and other social networks.

Globe telecom had some difficult times the past few weeks I cannot register in some of their promos. Now they brought out another promo and the subscribers will try to register again but it is hard. I hope with Telstra, we will have more choices. This is my discussion too about Telstra.
There was news last year that Telstra, a new internet service provider, will make an entry here in my country. I want to subscribe to this provider because my...

I have a bad news, PLDT, the jerks that they are won their law suit against Telsra so Telsra Philippines wont happen. San Miguel food corporation promises to make a new Telcom though.

@CaptAlbertWhisker but PLDT is owned by Pangilinan and San Miguel is owned by Cojuanco, so there is a rift between these 2 magnates and rich businessmen?

@Yar_Joey That must be the reason why PLDT tried to sabotage the telsra deal. They dont want san miguel to succeed.

A Major telcom here is trying to block them, I hope they will win their case and more foreign telcoms will come here. I am for supporting local brands but these local telcoms are cheating their subscribers.

Yes, we have been waiting for such change in the telecoms industry. We just wish the likes of Telstra be given a fair chance in the industry for the benefit of us end-users.
