Who is your best Role Model?

In the course of our lives, many people come forward to help and guide us. I've had some great role models in my different jobs, in my family and in the friends I've made. However, as I get older and look back on my life, I realize that one person really did give me the tools to survive no matter what has come my way. My mother. Mom was a very strong woman. I'm not sure where her strength came from. She was a strong believer in God. She also never gave up on anything that life threw at her. She survived tuberculosis at age 20. She lost part of a lung through that disease. She also lost one kidney years later from another illness. And she just kept going. Neither one slowed her down at all. She survived losing her husband and then losing her oldest daughter. I thought either one of those would pummel her to the ground, but she kept going. Later in life, while in her 90s, she slowed down but she knew how she wanted the rest of her life to go. She leaned on me for support, but she was her own person until the end. She taught me how to fight for life, how to keep my dignity and how to smile even when I felt that everything around me was completely falling apart. I owe her so much and I think of her often, in what I'm going through now. Who is your role model in your life? I'd love to hear your story.

The same as you..my strong Irish Mother. She is admired and loved by so many here. I think the same as you,,dont know where she gets her strength, the same today as she was when young. She is 87 now, I am sorry for the loss of your Mother Claudia. I will be a heap I tell you, she is my best friend, even though there is a lot between us.

I can tell how much you love her. Just keep showing her the love and telling her so that, when her day does come, there will be no words unsaid. It's a wonderful thing when we have someone so close be such a great role model for us! :)

My strict disciplinarians, my parents. They taught me integrity, discipline, value of education, respect, frugality and independence. I would not be typing this response now if not for them who instilled in me those values.

That's really wonderful in so many ways. I like that you can appreciate the hard lessons of life that they taught you. Not everyone does! :)

My role models were my parents they taught me how to survive in the world. My Dad taught by making me do it myself instead of him doing things. Later on I knew how to do things because he taught and showed instead of doing it for me. I did the same with my kids.

Now see, that's even better! What you learned from your family members, you've passed on so your children can, one day, also pass it on. That is so beautiful! God bless your family, past and present! :)

I think many of us have much to thank our mothers for. Mine was strong too and always kept her head high and forged onward.
