Inexpensive breakfast to start the day

What do you eat for breakfast? I normally start the day with either; cornflakes, porridge or toast. I live on a tight budget, and when I go shopping, I often look at the different cereals on sale. These cereals look lovely but they are all very expensive so I have to leave them on the shelf. After reading an article in a magazine , I am glad that I do go for the cheaper options. This is because, according to the magazine article, many of the more expensive cereals are full of sugar and other unhealthy ingredients, and others do not have the health benefits that they say they do.

Good for you! I am not disciplined enough to eat breakfast. I usually drink coffee and maybe an orange. I am just never hungry that early :-(

We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so we're going to eat in full diet. Our usual breakfast is rice, fish saute with vinegar or fried fish, fruits and milk or coffee and this is meal is not expensive.

We do not eat cereals because they contain too much sugar. For breakfast I usually prepare home made muffins that I serve with soft cheese.

Home made food is best because then you know what has gone into the food.

My breakfast consists of toasts with cheese or peanut butter and one banana. Or oatmeal with bananas. Or one egg scrambled with cheese on a toast. Very frugal.

Cereal usually but as you have found, cereal is expensive and full of sugar to boot. When my inexpensive healthier cereal runs out, I guess it's toast or muffins.

I like the fact that being frugal does pay off. Expensive often does not mean good health.

@Cornin5 I don't do much grocery shopping myself my mom usually chooses the food and Bob drive me but is organic worth it as I bought some organic spinach in m eating last week when my Sister took me shopping I can';t get organic at the store Bob takes me! I love organic I once got bananas organic one of the best bananas I ever had. I will be buying my food now that my mom isn't eating the normal food she will be having sweets as we are to keep her happy, and she wants sweets. The hospice is about compassion, not aggressive treatment as I found out it is true my mom does have dementia. She is very frail and I have to keep sweets in her or anything so won't need another blood transfusion as she had her second one I two months when she was in the hospital. But if we pray she might live longer as she is very frail Hugs to you and Molly from me and my pet hamster Marty!

Pop Tarts are my choice because I like the chocolate ones and it's fast. Growing up we had cereal or toast.

I most always have an egg and toast for breakfast. Once in awhile I will have cereal, but only buy Corn Flakes, Shredded Wheat or Shreddies. I don't buy the sugared ones.

Beware also if the cereal (like corn) is genetically-modified one that is dangerous to health.

Cereal is expensive. There's store brands that taste as good. Read the nutritional value and select from there. It seems most food products are expensive these days.

I think cornflakes are good, though I am always tempted to eat other types of cereals, but as you said, they are sweeter and might not be as healthy as cornflakes. I usually just drink a cup of hot chocolate, and a few slices of bread with margarine. If I am a little bit more hardworking, then I might make some sandwiches with tuna or egg mayo. If I am more hardworking, then I'll cook noodles. But, usually just bread will do.

I've been buying Chex fruit and nut cereal, but it's too sweet so I add some store brand plain whole wheat flakes. This cuts down on the sugar and it saves money also. Plus it makes it healthier with the added fiber. Other mornings I might eat oatmeal with raisins and walnuts or an egg with my homemade turkey sausage patties.
