Edwyn Collins was the vocalist/guitarist for the alternative band Orange Juice before embarking on a solo career. In the 90's, Collins hit big with his tune "A Girl Like You," thanks in part to it's use in the movie Empire Records. "A Girl Like You," however, is a terrific song that deserved it's hit status, movie soundtrack or not. Collins effectively combined his Bowie-esque vocals with Ernie Isley-style fuzz guitar, resulting in a catchy as hell song. It also contains one of my all-time favorite lyrics: "too many protest singers, not enough protest songs." The link will take you to the official video.

It's a favorite for sure. I also dig his guitar play.

I loved this song! Edwyn Collins was sort of a one hit wonder with this. You are right that he had a Bowie like voice. Rather deep. It got heavy play on KROQ.

I know. I've never heard anything else by him, that I know of.
