Do You Have a Bit of a Fascination with Another Land?

Russia, people, language, history, Moscow
United States

You know... I do. What land am I interested in to a degree? Oh, not politically. No. Not that. But historically. Culturally. RUSSIA. Yes, Russia. Overall, it's rather poor financially. It is inclined toward bloodshed and violence. Yet, its people and its intelligence... yes, its intelligence. They draw me. I can't afford to visit. And I am not a traveler, anyway. But in some way or another, I am interested in the land of Russia. I would really enjoy learning (I know relatively little) the language. I would enjoy seeing (at least at the video level) the land. I would also like to be able to talk with its people. Do you have an interest, perhaps amounting to a fascination, with another land, another people?

It would be fun, to be sure. There are some beautiful sights to see there.

I enjoy Irish music. Oddly, though, I don't think much of that twisty-toes dancing business. I don't know the name of it, but I'm not a fan.

Cool, but see my response to a comment on Ireland, concerning (not its music, but) its dancing.

I share your interest in Russia. I am interested in their culture, and I would like to visit Russia one day. I have started to learn the Russian language, but I am still a beginner.

I haven't been to Russia but three times to the Soviet Union. That means I was there before the country dissolved into its 15 republics. I visited Moscow and Leningrad (then) with pupils of our secondary grammar school who learnt Russian as a foreign language. My dream has always been to visit Uzbekistan but I missed the right time. Now it's too late for various reasons. One of them is that I'm too old to travel to far away destinations.

Sounds cool. I think it might be crowded there (correct me if I am wrong). I'm not totally uncomfortable around people, but huge crowds do bother me. And I'm not sure what I could do with the Chinese language. Or do they speak English? Do you speak Chinese?

I went to Russia last year, though only as a stopover on a cruise. I wasn't disappointed.

For me, it was France. Took six visits to get it out of my system. Now I am interested in Australia which I probably will never visit.

Yeah! Who doesn't probably? I would love to go to any part of the world but all alone and would love to wander randomly.
