Do you trust the critics?

I decided to watch the comedy movie 21 Jumpstreet and it's sequel 22 Jumpstreet because of all the hype critics gave it but I never laughed a single moment with the movie. I don't know why Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum failed to make me laugh because the critics highly praised their performances. I watched a similarly patterned movie titled Hot Pursuit and the movie have negative reviews from the critics and they said that Sophia Vergara is annoying but this comedy actually made me laugh. Sophia Vergara actually made me laugh loudly and I am not a fan ofher show Modern Family on TV. Is there a movie hyped by the critics that you didn't like? Is there a movie hated by the critics that you actually liked? Can you suggest me some comedy movies that were extremely funny. I just wanted to laugh.

I cannot think of any highly-acclaimed film nor any lousy movie to be critical about, or other critics critiquing the film. If I don't know the actors, I don't watch the movie.

So you dont watch foreign movies? Many box office movies used unknown actors.

Could it be that some critics are paid by producers to give good reviews so as to encourage viewers?

It surely happens, the big production houses usually pay the famous critics to not shatter their movie.

I will see a movie I want to see regardless of what the critics say - I often read them AFTER I see the movie just to see if we shared the same opinion. Comedy is hard . . . it's either really good or really bad. I can think of much older comedy movies that I thought were funny, but I haven't seen any recent ones - there's not a lot of trailers out there that I thought were seriously funny.

@CaptAlbertWhisker The problem with the Margaret Cho one was it was an American story just with an Asian family cast. It didn't really address Asian family issues. In fact, it just poked fun at Asians - I don't even think Margaret Cho was happy about that short lived sitcom. That's pretty good if that show is going on to a 3rd season - I hadn't realized it was doing that well!

I cant find movies that can make me laugh at this moment but I found a tv show that can make me laugh. The sitcom Fresh off the boat is really good. You will also be able to relate because it is the true story of an Asian American Youtube chef. I love the fact it is based from a true story.

@much2say This one is renewed for a 3rd season so It already surpassed Margaret Cho's show. I think the fact it is based from a true story why it is doing well.

I think those critics just happened to be not the target audience of those movies and they were just being snobs.

@avi256 I also think people who hates a certain movie genre should not be reviewing a movie from a Genre they dont like.

@CaptAlbertWhisker The critics dont realize that we dont want to know if they liked the movie or not, we need a generalised review.

I don't bother listening to critics anymore. Usually, when they rave about a movie, I know I probably won't like it at all. Any comedy with Whoopi Goldberg or Robin Williams always made me laugh until I hurt. Go for the big names.

Yeah, taste is a very subjective thing. Sometimes a badly criticized film might be something you will love.

Not all critics are popular but they were very influential on making a movie succeed or flop.

I thought Frozen was over hyped and many other movies to be honest. I like to make my own opinion most of the time.

I like dark comedy. So both Dr. Stangelove and Pulp Fiction made me laugh. But Something about Mary did too. Critics loved that self-absorbed movie about a washed up batman figure a year ago, but I didn't. I squirmed. I'm trying to think of one that critics hated but I liked. Ironically, with all of my pretentious sophistication, Titanic is one of my favorite movies. As is Lion King.

I did liked some critically praised movies but yeah I realized I dont agree with them most of the time. Also some box office movies also dont appeal to me and some flop movies were fun to watch for me.

The parameters on which critics judge a movie are very different and may not go well with the masses. I dont think they are always wrong, but sometimes they are biased and that is why I do not rely on them.

Sometimes the movie's genre is not something they really enjoy. I think someone who hates action movies should not be a critic of action movies.
