Happy Resurrection Day

Do you celebrate Easter? Do you celebrate it for the Easter Bunny or Jesus' resurrection? I know so many people who don't celebrate the holidays because it comes from a pagan holiday. Christmas - December 25 isn't the day of Jesus' birth, so they don't celebrate. Easter is a pagan term for the goddess Ishtar, goddess of spring. However, whether you celebrate either of those holidays or not, what is important is the reason why you celebrate. Jesus was born - that is a fact history cannot deny. Easter came about because of Jesus' resurrection three days after Passover. Also a historical fact. Try as people might they cannot deny the historical documentation of Jesus' birth, death, and resurrection. One thing that always puzzles me about those historical facts is that even the Jewish people did not deny Jesus' crucifixion. In Acts you never read of the priests telling the disciples Jesus didn't die. What they did was try to tell them not to tell anybody about him. However, when you have eyewitnesses like the 500 people who saw him after his resurrection, it's hard not to tell anyone. Besides, Jesus commanded them to GO and TELL. The only time Jesus ever told the disciples to stay was immediately after his ascension and then only until the Holy Spirit came and imbued them with power and then they were to go everywhere and tell everyone. Which they did. So if the priests knew it was true, why are there so many people trying to deny it happened? So do you celebrate Jesus' resurrection? Or is Easter just another holiday filled with Easter Bunny's, and baskets full of candy? However you celebrate, I hope you have a very Happy Easter and Resurrection Day. Thanks for reading.

I agree with you, if a Christian is honoring God for the birth of His son, then that by definition isn't pagan, but is rather what one might call a natural expression of Christian devotion and love for God, and I feel the same about Easter. As St. Paul says, if one esteems a day, they do it to the Lord and who are we to judge another's servant? For me there where no Easter bunnies, since the time I was a child it has been devotion to God for His gift.

Happy belated Easter! I finally completed all my entire series of masses. :D I did 5 in total woot. Wednesday - 1 Thursday - 1 Friday - 2 Saturday -1 It was the most comprehensive range of services I went to. The vigil on Saturday covered almost from beginning of genesis to the promise of God's kingdom. Very very good!

I find it interesting, Valerie, that you and I were putting our similar posts together at about the same time. It took me a bit to find mine. I thought I already had it saved on my computer, but had to access my port elsewhere to get it. We celebrate all the holidays although we always told our children the truth regarding them. You can still hide eggs, decorate them and include candy without continuing the tradition that it's the Easter Bunny that brings them to the house, or Santa for that matter. My kids were not lied to regarding those things and they still had fun on these holidays. We actually celebrated with out family last Saturday, as my brother and his wife, that host our family get-togethers, is currently at Walt Disney world in CA. So, we went to church this morning, and then I have to work this afternoon.

@just4him If we were celebrating that day on the actual day, I probably could have gotten it off. I think I usually do. It was super slow that day until after supper and then pretty busy since they'd already sent almost everyone home.

As a child it was all about the celebration of spring, bunnies, Easter eggs, baskets of chocolate and new clothes. I became a Christian when I was 20 so for the last 45 years, it has been a celebration of the resurrection. But we always had baskets and egg hunts for the kids and new clothes for church. But we always went to church several times a week so having something new to wear when celebrating this holy day was for showing honor, not showing off.

It always seemed to the child I was back then, that those new clothes and bonnets we wore to church on Easter were for show. Now as a Christian in love with my Lord Jesus Christ for all he did for me, I don't see it as show anymore, but respect and honor for who he is and what he did.
