A bit of a scare and, a little about the cabin in Banks.

Rooger seemed like he wanted one more walk. So, I finally reluctantly took him out and, was about to head up the trail, but he was already pulling and, I could hear what sounded like Coyote's howling all around me pretty much, at first I wasn't going to worry about it, but when I heard the bushes moving right across from us, that was our warning, that this wasn't a very good idea. So, I decided to just take Rooger on back home. The log cabin in Banks is the place I used to have Cub scout meetings, from what I gathered it was built by boy scouts in 1910, but I am also a little confused, because on the site I read it had a story about a log cabin in the town, built in the 1860's that was a school house. I would like to post a picture of the cabin, but I don't think I am allowed too, because it's not my picture. Just to update this particular log cabin was built by the scouts in 1910, making it 106 years old.

Do you think a coyote was close, thinking about snacking on your dog? I tend to trust them when hiking, but I do monitor their movement.

No I think a pack had already made a kill, because they were all howling and, then I also heard movement in the bushes so I knew they were close, one Coyote would be scared of us, they aren't big, but I'm not going to take my chance with a pack.

@TRBRocks420 I hear their howls, but don't know how to interpret them. When I see one or two moving in the hills above us (I'm often with a small kid), I make sure they're moving parallel to or away from us. This guy was coming toward me and an adult friend, but he was fleeing humans coming from the other direction, and darted into the bushes as soon as he noticed us.

@TheHorse Yeah, I have had one run from me before, but you just never know with a dog on a leash and, if they had killed something or had rabies. I figured I would just wait until day time.

Interesting about the log cabin. We have coyotes near us cause to the side back of our house is rolling empty sage brush. They are noisy. Usually I don't think they'd go after a dog that was with a human but yeah, it would be good to be cautious.

Yeah, pretty cool little place, it's called log cabin park and, yeah I figure better safe than sorry. I heard them like from different places too, almost like 2 packs were going to brawl or something lol.

@TRBRocks420 Coyotes are pretty small critters usually. I have heard and been warned about not allowing my dogs to get near coyotes cause supposedly coyotes will gang up on a tame dog and kill them. This is what dog trainers have told me, anyway.

@sallypup I think my Dog could easily scare them off or kill them, but I'm still not going to take the chance and, you never know if one has diseases and, the howling is a sign they killed something. So, they are more aggressive then.

You know I See people posting free / royalty free images all the time but I am a little iffy on them myself. I hope you'll be able to go down and take a picture of it soon. Are you thinking these are two different cabins or the same one? Maybe the boy scouts cabin was built on the site that the old school house cabin was on?

Same I just don't risk it and, I should be able to get down there with in a week or so. They might be two different cabins or could be the same one I'm not sure, but will try to look into it further.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yeah, that's what's so cool, how just a little log cabin has survived all these years and, I will just be very careful, if I here them howling we won't go too far. I mean I think we could take them, but not worth getting bit or rabies, plus who knows how many there were.

Sounds quite scary, we no longer have any wild pack animals here, though we once had wolves in the UK

Yes, it's best to be cautious, especially at night and, during spring, because that's when Coyotes have babies and, they can be protective, also yes he is lol.

Sounds like a close shave with the rattling of the bushes. Cool you were a scout. My uncle reached the highest rank of scouts in Malaysia. He was awarded the Pengakap Raja (King's Scout Award). He's bad azz.
