This is So Annoying

I am happy that the landscapers in the neighboring community are busy trimming the trees on the hillside near my home. But I am sick of hearing their chainsaw. The noise is just awful. Even with my new double paned windows, it is loud enough inside to hurt my head. What’s worse is that they have been at this for several days (or weeks) now. I am in the process of finishing my book on college scholarships. I have been on a roll lately. But it is tough to work with the awful buzzing racket going on and on and on. Today, when I am ready to sit down, I think I’ll shut the door into my bedroom and the door into my office. I like keeping things open, but they are working right now, and I can feel my muscles tightening from the stress of the terrible sound. I wish more than one of the crew had a chain saw. I would just leave the house if they all started buzzing away at the branches. I would lose a whole day of work, but that sure would be better than writing with this racket continuing for days. Maybe I’ll dig around in my pantry and see if I can find the ear plugs I bought a few months ago. Perhaps they would help block out the din and prevent the tension and distraction. What do you do when noisy neighbors or workers disturb you?

I remember once, last summer, there was a week or two where they were working in our neighborhood at 7am! i'm seriously annoyed when i'm woke when it's unnecessary!

Legal quiet time is between 10:00 pm and 7:00 am. I think this is nuts. It should start an hour later and end an hour sooner.

I think am earplug will help. I hope. I'm sorry to hear what you've gone through with the awful noise of chainsaws. I hope they're done so that the noise will stop.

Thanks. I hope they have earplugs too. Otherwise, they won't be hearing much for much longer.

It is fairly quiet around here , we do get the occasional chainsaw but it normally only lasts a couple of days. Sorry to hear your peace has been shattered.

It's not just the peace that is suffering, it's my FOCUS.

@suzzy3 It's Wednesday morning here now, and so far, so good. I just hear birds singing, much prefer this.

I was just about suggesting ear plugs as I was reading your post and there you are looking for them. Hope the situation has improved somewhat. I hate noise too.

I don't mind it if there is a good reason, like this one, and if it is short in duration, which this is not.

Noisy neighbours drive me to seek alternative pockets of peace, if possible. Good luck with the earplugs...

Thanks. I was able to write a chapter between the breaks they took. Either I'm fast or their breaks are really long.

@ElizabethWallace Look upon the gaps between the breaks as a form of encouragement... :)

Noises don't bother me most of the time. When they do I turn up sound on tv or go out and join in making noise and mow the yard something like that. Hope you find your ear plugs. Have a blessed day

Well, sure, but this is my writing time. I won't ever finish the book if I go outside or make noise myself.

@ElizabethWallace Could you go to a library to work instead?

They are not to the end of the hillside. I hope they get there soon. Enough is enough.

I think ear cuffs would help more than ear plugs. Isn't there a library nearby where you could sit and work in silence?

I usually put some music on that is calming and drowns out the noise!

When they were working on the road by us I would just shut the windows and doors and had the radio on. I could still hear the big trucks, especially during the removal of the old road, but it wasn't as bad as with the windows open. Hopefully they will be done soon.

Oh that's no fun. Our neighbors have a rooster that crows all the time, day or night, some nights I have to dig out the ear plugs.

I am finished for this part of the day. Even with the earplugs and trying to avoid working when they had the saws going, the muscles in my neck are complaining.

Sorry you have to put up with that. It must be hard to concentrate. You should try the earplugs.

I could never get on with ear plugs - the only time I used them was when I was in hospital and trying to keep out the snoring from others in the same ward. I agree that the noise of a chain saw is very disturbing - I hope that they finish soon and leave you in peace.

Perhaps I need to have you come write at our home. We live in a very rural and quiet place. I hope you found your earplugs.

Our neighbors are far enough apart that nothing bothers me, except when we have workers at our home. I just tune them out.
