I have been a bad, bad girl. I have been meaning to post for a good while now. You know how it goes, days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into over a month since I last posted. I have done something exciting though, for the first time ever, I volunteered for a Presidential Candidate. I have not ever worked on any campaigns before. But I found a candidate that I was excited about, and decided not to take a back seat and make a big effort for them. I mostly did it for my kids, so they would know if you want something to happen, you cannot just rely on others to make it happen. Get in there and make it happen yourself. I made phone calls, passed out flyers, bumper stickers & yard signs. We have voted here and I have to say, I felt really good about casting my vote for my person. Have you ever volunteered for a candidate before? What was it like? Have a wonderful Day!

I have never done that as I haven't come across anyone that inspired me to do so. Good for you though. Did your candidate win?

Oh it is hard, this is the first time and I have voted since I was 18 years old. I may never find another I want to back.

I worked a lot, and sometimes with fear, when we had to say NO to dictator Pinochet in Chile. I felt very proud then, but I am not proud of what we call democracy. Not that it is worse than elsewhere from what I see.

It is good to stand up for yourself and you should be proud. A lot of people would not have stood up in such a scary time,

Yes I did twice when a brother in law and his son ran for an office in our local government. It was quite taxing but also fun working with the rest of the volunteers.

I helped my father stand as a local government candidate in the mid-70's - I was 15 - he wasn't elected but he was opposing a politician with a very safe seat and actually gave him a run for his mmoney but he never stood again

How great of you to do that. I haven't ever volunteered for anything like that before as politics don't really interest me very much.

@mom210 I really do wish it interested me more than it does. My parents never talked about politics so that may be the reason why.

@simone10 my parents didn't either, I think while we were int he military we saw how much control they have over our lives and decided we needed to do our best to keep them in line.

You are great! I think that's a really good thing to do, and be the good model for your kids as well. I have never done that before, perhaps I am still waiting for the person I'd like to volunteer for.

@mom210 Yes, I agree with you. I used to think very positive to them when I was younger, as I thought they are there to help us, to serve the community and country. When I grew older and realized that it's not really that case. I still think there are people who really want to help and serve others, so I don't give up hoping, though I don't think I can be the one who make the changes. It's good that you have found someone you'd like to volunteer for!

There are so many bad apples out there, I think it is hard to find one we feel good about. Many are not there for the reasons they should be, to serve.

I've never done more than a sign in the yard and a bumper sticker on the van for someone I really wanted to win.

That is what I usually do and that is it. I actually was real excited for the guy running for reelection as our sheriff as well. He is doing a great job and did get reelected. I help signs for him along the road as well.

No, I have never volunteered for a candidate. I left my native country that I was still very young and, being a foreigner, I cannot vote in the country where I live.

@mom210 Yes, I could vote by mail in Italy, but I am not interested at all by Italian politicians, they are all the same and in Italy nothing ever changes.

No, I haven't. I'm not heavy into politics. My dad was, and he used to do that kind of thing all the time I was growing up. I'm glad you found someone you're excited to get behind. I haven't found that person yet with this election.

Isn't it exciting to be part of a campaign thing ? I have been assisting national candidates that seeked the help of our company . And all i can say , is that it is an exciting one . Imagine being up and about until a campaign program has finished and we would be going home after that at about 2 in the morning ? Wow, i love those experiences .
