Intro for Ruby3881

Greetings from Ruby in southern British Columbia, Canada! I just joined MyLot, and am still finding my way around. But as I've begun to discover old friends from Bubblews, Persona Paper and other writing sites, I thought I'd best post a little something. I am trying to comment or send messages as I'm following old friends, but in my excitement to reconnect with all of you, I may be forgetting to leave you some sign of authentic personhood... I've generally been much more of a writer than a socializer, but these days writing sites are not necessarily a good bet. And I do miss the social aspect of posting on those "social writing" sites! So I figure it's worthwhile to try sites like this one. I'm also on BlogJob at the moment - partly for the social aspect, but also for the blogging Anyways, this is just to say hello and I'm not some weird lurker trying to mass add a ton of friends. I look forward to reconnecting with old friends here, and also to making new friends.

@josie_ Many of us move to myLot when Bubblews stopped to be interesting. You joined at a right moment, for this month and the month of April the minimum payout is only $1.00, it's a nice start.

@LadyDuck Just join a few hours ago although I was "lurking" around the site these past few days and getting the feel of things. Notice you are among the very active myLotters. Seeing more and more fellow bubblers it's like a home coming reunion for me.

I was so glad to find you here too! I remember you weren't one to spread your writing around, and when Bubblews closed I thought I may have lost touch with you for good. You can't imagine how thrilled I was to see your name pop up here!

I almost made it to blogjob today to look you up, but never did get over there. I found it was great for blogging, but I didn't think many did much interacting when I was there before coming here. Glad you made it here. This month and next the admin is paying out anything over a dollar to get people started. We don't know what it will be after that. It's been ten bucks, and they pay automatically by about the fifteenth of the following month. No one needs to request payment.

I love that setup! It's always great when nobody has to request payment, and all payments are made promptly. Also, I really appreciate the dollar threshold. Being that I'm starting very late in the month, it may be tight to see any earnings for March, but at least I have a decent chance! As for BlogJob, it's quite social if you get involved in a few discussions. It helps to participate in a forum or group.

Hi there! I was from bubblews as well but I kind of stopped when my account is deleted back then. I'm not sure why though. That's when a lot of people were starting to get doubtful about the site. I've seen a lot of bubblews members here :) But I can't name them all as I have forgotten some of them. Anyway, welcome to myLot! A message from a newbie as well :)

@Ruby3881 Bubblews has got a lot of spammers though. I guess what they did was some simple clean up but was not really thought of better. I mean, there could have been other ways to stop that problem.

@Dextoi Indeed, there were better ways to deal with the spammers - and other issues they experienced. I doubt they learned how to fix the problems, but they did learn never to promise users a share of the earnings again! Their new app is free, but no earning opportunity. It's purely social, and driven by many celebrities. I guess Arvind likes to rub elbows with the rich and famous....

It's sad what happened to many of us at Bubblews. They deleted a lot of accounts without notice - some because they decided to ban whole countries and didn't bother to tell anyone. It's good to see that other sites are more reliable, and have a better business sense.

@dodo19 I grew up in Baie d'Urfé, and as an adult I also lived in Pointe-Claire and Dorval. I went to school and worked in Ste. Anne's. I was at the veterans hospital when I first graduated high school. I hear it's a very different place now!

And we have something else in common: I'm originally from Montreal (West Island, then Verdun.) I'm sure I've asked you before, but I don't remember where in Montreal you are?

@Ruby3881 My youngest son is almost 2 months old and he has had some health problems. First his heart murmur and then he had a UTI so they were thinking his kidneys were having issues. It has been never ending really. He goes for his last ultrasound (hopefully) in a couple weeks on his kidneys to make sure they are okay.

@Ruby3881 yes, and I think that has been suggested, as I recall-however, I think that the answer may be more simple then that. That is, I *suspect*, rea was used because it is simply the more common term in general. Though some have argued a nuance, and there probably was one to the ancient writers, this is somewhat risky for us today because any generalized distinction of nuance between them must take into account that the Hebrew of the Bible has more then one dialect, and even if true, it still might not be a universal understanding. For example, the language of the Torah is slightly different then the language of Job, and the language of Hosea Northern Kingdom is different then the language of the post exilic book of Nehemiah from the Southern Kingdom-within them we do see preferred language (the Torah prefers masc. pronouns even when clearly speaking of women-and at times vice versa...in general, that is never noted in translation though in Hebrew it sticks out like a sore thumb especially to a professor who just taught a class on pronouns and then had half of their students say "excuse me, what's up with this?!"...uh, that's a sidenote;)...but, that preferred language is not always the same in all groups-this is similar in relations to terms for the poor or poverty, there is much written about the terms but infact, not every writer may not have had that in mind, and that is probably exactly why when authorative understandings of the commandment would be made, they would be codified with external definitions, similar to the story of the Good Samaritan. Like, if we define the commandment, then whatever the specific term used, it becomes defined by that clarification used by that community...some of the statements in John's Gospel as well as 1 John appear to be reaching this directive, because...when the question of who my neighbour is answered, some have asked what is "love" and how is that then defined? Similar to how 1 Cor 13 tries to answer that. If that makes sense?

I was thinking of you too! RexTruLove and I have been having a discussion about the commandment to "Love thy neighbour" and he was saying that "neighbour" was perhaps a bit problematic, as the original Hebrew that Jesus was quoting didn't translate well into English. Of course, I immediately thought that you would be the best person to consult on such a question :) I hadn't even thought to find you here, but I am so pleased I did! I've missed our conversations

@HebrewGreekStudies Your answers never fail to make me smile! Yes, I was aware of the differing interpretations of "rea," especially when it comes to the early Christians and Jesus himself. And I love how you bring this question into a modern context. That's exactly what I would imagine Jesus saying today.... Here's another one for you: is there any discussion as to why "rea" was chosen in the original commandment to "love thy neighbour," and not "amith" instead? It would seem that both words are used in similar contexts, but I do get a feeling that the latter conveys more a sense of the individual accepting the other as an associate. Is "rea" perhaps a word one might use if the intent was to suggest a closer tie than the listener might be inclined to accept on his own?

Thanks for stopping in to welcome me! I see you've been hard at work here & you're almost at the payment threshold. I hope I will make it this month, too! I am only active at BlogJob, besides here at MyLot. It's similar in some ways, but the payments work differently. There's also more of a focus on setting up personal blogs. Unfortunately, the site is closed to new members right now. I'm glad MyLot was open!
