We got a parrot about a year ago and started teaching him how to speak, or so we thought.
But that is not how parrots learn to talk. They learn to say the most commonly used words and phrases in your household and of course the words you want them to learn. Since those too are the ones you go on repeating to them.
So every other day he gets us by surprise and says words or lines we never thought he would.
We have a GSD whose name is spike. The other day, to our surprise the parrot (Amigo) was calling spike exactly the way we call him....Spike come here... This little thing is too cute when he calls a GSD, the funny part is Spike actually responds to his call and is very protective of Amigo.
Love them both so much.

What a fun story to read, I was smiling from ear to ear by the time I finished it. I don't have a parrot, but I've seen some and was astounded what they can say...

Yes you are right. I think I talk to my pets more than I do with my kids. They are all so busy and running around all the time. Just yesterday I was chatting away with my parrot, and my son reminded me saying " Mom you know that, that is a parrot?"
