EBAY SELLER CHARGES TWICE THE PRICE FOR A VACUUM

I adore Ebay UK. I have been buying off the site for many years but once in a while only a few sellers sometimes crop up who are inadvertently out to rip buyers off. The latest of EBAY Sellers who are over pricing is that of 'Fashroom" who has apparently been "Very customer focused". So the actual retail price of a 2200 watt Miele S8310 last sold a few months ago by a few leading franchises on the high street at £200 must come as a shock to any existing owner where this EBay seller seems it is alright to justify charging £416 alone without free delivery and will only post to the UK and not the Scottish highlands. The seller doesn't just over price on premium Miele vacuums, but also a number of other brands. But they're not the first to do so - plenty of sellers have cashed in on the belief that the more powerful "old stock" vacuums can be sold at higher prices before the EU law came in on September 2015 where new vacuums below 1600 watts can be sold. Since EBAY UK is an auction site and not classed as a franchise, sellers can usually price whatever they like. But this post acts as a warning to general consumers. Charging twice the price on an old stock vacuum cleaner that has now been banned for sale in the UK because of its motor power just isn't on. The seller concerned may well think that they can hide behind EBAY UK because the lack of laws on the site do not govern over pricing. The Unfair trading act of 2008 may well have more to do with it. To me when shopping online the rule is to look around, never mind if i have to look around for a month. I feel people who let themselves be ripped off are at fault, what`s wrong with looking around first before you buy? As you say, eBay sellers can decide on a price so it`s my duty as a buyer to see im not being ripped off and also check about shipping.

The thing that annoys me the most @miniam is that EBay will do nothing about it, so sellers can charge what they like with brand new appliances.

I do not use Ebay anymore since I have been able to find things elsewhere for less. I would often see people overcharging or charging a ridiculous low price but having an insanely high shipping charge. Auctions would often get out of control, so after awhile I no longer looked for deals but for items that were rare or custom. Many sites have come to replace those as well. I do know a person who still gets really great deals on ebay and even sells on there but I often wonder how long she spends on there.

I see folks do a "Buy it Now" at ridiculously high levels, but they usually have a "Make an Offer" option. I think the psychologists call that the "door in the face" approach to sales.

Sometimes "make an offer" isn't listed as an option, though.

@crystalvisions True. I think one has to do research before they buy something, especially something half-way expensive.
