Different colors, sexes, backgrounds, races, levels of education, religions, political positions, etc, exist. So what? Is difference or being different the real problem? In the dictionary we find many words, including: acceptance, tolerance, respect, and love. A beautiful melody has different notes. Being different is not a problem. The problem is in the mind and heart of the beholder. * Let us not make problems, let us live in peace. * Let us build bridges and not barriers. What do you think? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Photo credit: Pixabay

I agree with you, under our skin, nationality, religion etc we are all human beings with a heart/feelings. Being different is not a problem but racism still exists.

Yes, racism and nationalism exist because there are those that fan the hatred instead of the love. However, we are all children of God but some have left God and do whatever they want to make trouble.

That's what makes the world go round. I think the problem is that people fear what they do not know and that brings out the hatred.

@mommaj And there are some that fan hatred for the differences, instead of love. We have much more in common that we have different. Why not built bridges instead of walls?

@1hopefulman That is so true. People are just scared of what they don't know and they are not interested in learning. Not knowing is ignorant, but not wanting to learn is stupid.

We have so much in common, just like the different colors in the picture and if only we would focus on that?

I don't see difference(s) as a problem, not even a real one. I concur with this statement of yours: The problem is in the mind and heart of the beholder.

We can change our mind and make up our mind to love instead of hating. Come on everybody?

Individuals are different by the mere fact of birth, so to be anything else would be different. Difference makes the world the way it is. I enjoy being different and far from the norm people become by simply existing. The real question is, how are differences making this world a better place, and are people embracing his or her differences?

Apparently, ever snowflake and every blade of grass is different. Snowflakes and blades of grass don't hate, why should we?

Respecting others is so important. After all God has given us freedom to choose what we do with our life. No matter what color our skin is or where we were born, we have the same needs and the same Father - so we are brothers and sisters..

So true! And we can let God handle the troublemakers and he will. Romans 12:17-21 New International Version (NIV) 17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Definitely not! Moreover, I think it's because of the differences, we can come up with better ideas, better solutions, and we might be together more harmonious.

Yes, being different is not the problem but how we react to the differences can be a problem if we choose to view the differences with malice. Hopefully we will realize the importance of acceptance and toleration of the differences.

I agree with you. The difference is very useful for the world. Try to imagine how boring the world will be if we all like the same thing. For example, you can find classical music, jazz, popular music etc. And they are all nice even if they are quite different from each other.

@1hopefulman We ought to love each other inspite of the differences. God said so, so we have to follow.

@salonga Absolutely, Jesus said that we should love our neighbor as ourselves and that we should even love those that may view us as their enemies. If we all did that, then the differences will not matter. God let's the sun and rain benefit every human on earth. Let's follow him!

We are not all the same but we can still love each other if that is what we want to do, especially if we believe in God.

We are like the leaves of one tree, the waves of one sea, the flowers of one garden. Beauty is in diversity not uniformity. Glory not in this that you love your country, Glory in this that you love mankind. --from the Baha'i writings. The unity and peace of the world is in the acceptance of one another as members of the same family.

Very nice thoughts and expressions! Yes, we must think that we are all citizens of planet earth and treat one another accordingly and those of us that are believers in God, that we are all brothers and sisters, even in different choices of religious beliefs and treat one another as brothers and sisters. We must be all good Samaritans. We must all be examples of what we all should be. Fighting, mistreating, hurting and killing one another or anyone for that matter proves that we are neither humans nor believers in God.

Definitely not a problem. The problem is the way each of us was brought up. The knowledge, the tradition that our ancestors instill on us that made racism, different cultural , religious and other aspects make it different from each other's points of view.

Being different should not be a problem. The problem eradicates in our mind and the way we think. The different cultures, colors, way of life .... makes the world more interesting and we can learn a lot from other people. No one is perfect and all of them have something interesting to offer to world's comunity. Otherwise, life would be boring if all would be the same with the same thoughts, culture etc.

You are right! We can be different and still be humans, cooperate and be at peace. We just have to accept that there are differences and even if we don't like them, we can let God take care of those things. We are not the judge, God is.

I have lived in few countries and most are like me - enjoy the variety and it is the real spice of life. Nature shows the way by how it keeps us enthralled. We should just go with nature which reflects the oneness of creation but shines the uniqueness of the parts - siva
