My friend`s husband has recently changed his job and now he will get his wage packet sent to him through the post. She says that this is good because she will be able to open it before he does. Personally , I do not think she should open his wage packet before he does, what do you think?

If it is not addressed to her, it is considered illegal to open someone else's mail. She should be ashamed of herself.

Is it illegal in the UK? I will have to find out and tell her if it is.

@millie02 I know it is in both Canada and the UsS. If it is not addressed to you, you are not entitled to open it unless the addressee has given you permission.

@Morleyhunt It is probably the same here. I nearly opened a letter by mistake once when it was sent to the wrong address. I was just about to open when I realised that it was for my neighbour and not me. The postman had put it in the wrong letterbox and I had to take it round to my neighbours house.

It depends on the relationship between husband and wife. With some it's perfectly fine, in other's it's not. Personally I never would.

I am not sure if he said that she could or not. Some husbands might be funny about it.

I think if he allows her to do so, then it's fine. Otherwise, yes, she shouldn't open his wage packet or any letters.

I don't know if he allows this or not. Some husbands might not mind.

@millie02 Yes, my husband doesn't mind I open his letter or email or anything at all, as I think we don't have anything to hide from each other. But I still ask him before I do that.

It is between them. if he allows her the only thing that will be done is the amount of take home pay which should be in form of a check and only he can sign for it to be cashed

I don't think there will be any money in the letter. Just a copy of the amount he earned.

Nope. It's a private property so only the owner should open it.

No, she should not open her husband's mail, unless he has specifically told her to do so.

No way would I open anyone's mail. Not a good idea in my opinion.

I agree with you. if I am in the situation of the husband I will feel frustrated if I knew I wasn't the first person who open my wage packet that I work hardly to earn. :)

It is not for her to open his mail and I hope he tells her so. Wonder if she opens his mail all the time.

I agree with you, it is rude to open the packet before he does.

I see no problem with the wife looking at the wage first because with a married couple the money is theirs and not just his.
