How do you take care of your health?

Today is world health day and this year's theme is 'Beat Diabetes'. Diabetes is no longer a disease that attacks senior citizens. Even children are at high risk due to the current complacent life style. Technology and machines around us have made our lives much simpler but less healthy. Blood Pressure, Diabetes or Cholesterol have become so common that the elders at my home no longer treat them like a disease. They have learnt to live with it without really making any efforts in curtailing or controlling it. My grandmother has diabetes but she goes on and on with sweets and simply says that she is taking medicines to treat her condition. My mother-in-law has BP and she ignores breakfast most of the time and also gets easily frustrated. We need good health to achieve that big dream. Good health is easily taken for granted. Only when we have a problem do we realize how we have been ignoring our health. When our system whimpers or coughs or cries, we do not notice it. We notice it only when it yells the warning or is about to crash. On this day, lets make good health a priority. The other priorities can wait. This can't. There are simple ways to ensure good health: Eating a healthy diet Drinking plenty of water Working out regularly Keeping an open mind Laughing more and worrying less What do you do to stay healthy? I have no health problems, but I had a healthy diet during all my life. I avoid ready made food, I never drink soda or fa foods and I walk every day.

That is the ideal life one that I'm trying to achieve. But the temptations around me are just too much for me to handle!

Your post reminded me that I should live a healthy lifestyle... I haven't done any workouts lately... but if you count that single sit up as we wake up in the morning, that would be my only exercise... but at work, I really move a lot...

I think about workouts too but seldom do it. I have a good BMI, so no serious workouts till now. What type of work are you involved in?

Thats a good thing. I'm a foodie and its hard to eat a balanced diet everytime. Luckily I have a higher metabolism too, so I always surprise people with the quantity of food that I can consume and look the way I'm right now.

I do all those that you enuemrated although , i get to exercise only on weekends when i will not be visiting my parents in our hometown . In addition to those , i take vitamin supplements such as Fish Oil , vitamin E , megadose of Vitamin C and B complex . I also drink a glass of water with two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar before bedtime . Upon waking up , i drink a glass of lukewarm water with two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar again , in an empty stomach .

I usually intake just the necessary to maintain my system. I got rid of cultural habits, like putiing flavor or ingredients to meals. I include vegetables, fruits, rice, grains, beans and other sources of protein and carbohydrates t maintain my system or a daily basis. I do not drink sugary drinks, instead, I only drink pure drinking water and I only drink milk once every week; I can drink one glass or two, depending on my system´s needs.

@Scindhia biryani is not different from the dishes I chooose to eat. Rice is one of my prefered foods; I also include soy meat (good source of vegetable protein)

You have so much self-control with regard to your diet. I'm a foodie. If you have to convince me of something, all I would need is a plate of biryani!!

@Scindhia That is very true. And when I've been particularly good I reward myself with chocolate.

Atleast your husband is not like my ignorant-but-confident granny! . Good that you focus on the diet. A proper diet is by itself a cure to many health issues.
