Free Slice of Pie

We found ourselves in a different town yesterday while running errands. We went to Village Inn for lunch. Since it was Wednesday, we each got a free slice of pie. That was the first really nice thing.
Secondly, they brought us a carafe of iced tea, no waiting for refills.
As I gazed around, I noted many of the staff seemed well acquainted with the customers.
I was really touched by how one elderly lady was treated. One waitress made a big deal of her. She said "I want you sitting right there, where I can see you. I always took care of you and Ray." I supposed that maybe Ray was her deceased spouse.
When this elderly lady was through eating, the hostess asked for her keys to go get her car. The lady said she was capable of walking out to her car, but the staff said she WANTED to do this. I saw that the elderly woman used a walker to get around. She paid her bill and was able to walk out directly to her car. The people who work in the restaurant do not get paid extra to be nice. They just are.
I enjoyed the good food and good environment.
A slice of pie, a slice of life.
I will go back there again.

That sounds like a place I would frequent if I lived in that area.

It is not really close to us, but when we are in that town we will eat there more often. It is a chain around the country. I am not sure that it is always as nice but Wow! is how I felt. Maybe I should find their corporate web site and give them thumbs up.

That is how I felt as well. This was not in a little town where you expect some of the neighborliness. It was one of the nicest meals out I have had in a long time.

I just sent compliments to this location via their corporate page. I think we forget that we can tell people what we like and not just complain.

@GardenGerty True, it is good to compliment when the service is up to expectation.
Personally I do not think there is a point in complaining unless we offer solution as well.
If not, complaining just serves to make things worse.

It is easy to forget this type of restaurant that does not have lots of hype. I loved it.

That is such a sweet thing for that lady to do.
We go to a restaurant that we have gone to for years. Recently my grandfather has had trouble in the morning, just walking sometimes. THey let us sit at the front and we have the same waitress we always like. VEry sweet and kind people.
Sadly, there aren't too many of those around anymore.

When I waitressed the owner emphasized that the success of his business hinged on how his staff treated people. He also would not allow customers to abuse us either.

I had a traditional peach pie. It was delicious. The peaches had a fresh taste and texture and there was not too much sugar.

I would like to find a place like that around here.
I live in a place where it is too commercialized. A block away is a strip mall, and 3 blocks away is the mall. If there are places like that here, they are out of the way, and well hidden.
It would be nice to find a place where there is good people, and good service. Where they know the clientele and don't mind doing extra nice things just because it is in their nature.
I wouldn't mind a pie every Wednesday too!
