I got a letter as usual saying I need to renew my plates on my car again. I need an emissions test done this year to do so which is $30 (plus the time to go down there). I look at the paper and yes now it is $110 for new plates for the year. Oy! i think I should just get a bike now.

And if you get a newer car, the prices go up! We just had to pay $200 something for our plates.

It depends on the state here how much this stuff costs. One state I lived in was outrageous ... Here I dont have or need a car.

Yes, here it depends on province. But I heard ontario is pretty e xpensive, but then if you live in the city it costs much more.

I am sure the biking would be healthy for you, but there would probably still be times you would need a car.

Yes, I would. I am hoping to get a bike cheap off Kijiji. I will bike between doing the cat, and dogs. But would still need it to go to work.

Oh, ouch! That's about what I'm paying for my car these days, but it's gone down every year since I purchased it. I'm guessing that you're paying even more than just the $30 fee for the emissions on top of what you're used to? I'm frequently glad that we don't have to do emissions tests in our area... I remember having to go with my mom when she was renewing the registration on one of the Corvettes she and my dad owned, and sitting in the summer heat of Phoenix waiting for our turn in the bay was definitely no picnic. My poor plastic Slinky melted under the back window while we were waiting, too.

I owe nothing on the car I paid it in full. I pay $1,605 in yearly insurance, $110 a year to renew the plates, $30 emissions test (done every 2 years on cars over a certain year I drove an 2007). Plus, the cost of upkeep which is slacking right now. I need an oil change, wheel barring, and tires.

That's the government gouging to get more money. If everyone dumps cars for bikes, then the government will demand payment for bike plates!

That is very true. I think this summer I am going to take up bike riding home or to petsitting but then drive to work (as it is a further drive - would take me 8 hours tobike).
