I wonder how many myLot writers are actually retired?

Conversely, of course, I wonder how many work full time or part time as I do (Only a day or two a week lately). I read many here whom I know are working full time jobs and still make time to post discussions and comment. Some are retired and able to check in several times a day. And yes, I also see some full time very busy moms who take on so much, but like to myLot some as well. This all came to mind, I suppose, since I am up at 7 AM this Saturday morning and preparing to work a six or seven hour shift on the sales floor of the "everything about wild birds" store today. It is the store's third anniversary and they are doing one of those black bag sales (20% off everything you can get in a black bag we will provide at the door). So, where do you fit: retired, retired and working part time like me, busy mom/dad, full time worker or some category I missed? Since it is early, I will have time to check back in briefly before I go in at 11. I hope all who read this (and myLotters who do not) have a great productive day, whatever you do.

My husband landed a decent job about 16 years ago. Before that I was the main bread winner. I cleaned toilets etc for seniors. We agreed that since he had the better job now it was time for me to stay home and work there. So that's me: home gardener and cook and critter wrangler. How could I forget the poetry? Poetry and at times short stories factor in, too.

It is great that you have time now to write some. I want to get back to poetry too and write more short stories as well. My wife is actually working on a novel that has been rolling around in her head and in stories she has written.

@JamesHxstatic My hubby is retired. I would love to have a job here at least for awhile however the problem is that jobs are few and far between and the second thing is that people still require workers even in the stores to know Russian and I never learned the language. So I work at home on the PC and finances are extremely tight.

@JamesHxstatic One of the huge reasons why we are considering moving to the Corvallis area in a few years is the culture issue. I write in a bubble here. No poetic venues at all. My hubby misses the university atmosphere.

As a full time housewife, I don't think I'll be retiring anytime soon

I did take early Social Security and I do not work at this time. That was due to some circumstances and health issues. I might consider a part time job, but do not find myself in a position right now. I keep busy enough though that I may not check in here as much as I like.

@CoralLevang Documentation from your doctor did not help? I would think that would be all that was required.

@CoralLevang This is just awful. Sorry. I would think that a doctor would say, "She is too weak from fighting the cancer to use her energy for work. She needs it to stay alive."

@JamesHxstatic No I'm not allowed to bet on duty. I sell entrance tickets or racecards. I used to work for the Tote, taking bets, but now I work for the actual racecourse.

@JudyEv No, Aintree is 200 miles north of us - I work at our local racecourse which is Newmarket. However I went to the Grand National 17 times in a row in my capacity as a betting operator.

I'm retired and enjoying it for the most part, so I can be here most of the time. Though I am also an author working on her next book, so in a way, I'm also working, though on my own time and the pay will be when a book is sold. So mostly retired.

I actually worked a bit today. I graded some papers and also wrote a progress note, which I sent (emailed) to one of my other jobs. I am NOT retired, and won't be for a long time.

I am happily retired. I have been for four years now, and have finally settled into it. it takes awhile to adjust, even if we plan for it. Creating a whole new life takes effort and a mind shift.
