Into the Groovy #27 - "Sister Europe"

The Psychedelic Furs are a London-based post-punk band led by brothers Richard (vocals) and Tim (bass) Butler. The band is probably best-known for performing the title song for the soundtrack for the movie Pretty in Pink. The Furs released a number of hit single's over the years -- the Butler's have a strong pop sensibility, but it's the swirling, near-hypnotic "Sister Europe" that remains my favorite Psychedelic Furs tune. (Fun Fact: Furs saxophonist Mars Williams is the leader of Chicago jazz/funk band Liquid Soul.)

The first time I saw them was with Echo and the Bunnymen. I'd thought the Furs had broken up long before that, but apparently not.

Oh yeah, Psych Furs! Another automatic inductee into the 80s new wave HOF. A great group.

They are really good live. I've seen them twice. I was bummed the second time because they didn't do this one. But yeah, Alternative HOF for sure.
