The evil flowers of long ago.

After my mention of Baudelaire this evening I felt it apt to search out my copy of Fleurs du Mal and intoxicate myself with a few verses. Parfum Exotique is a good place to start but it reminded me of the inappropriate atmosphere in which I studied these poems - in a university sitting in the path of icy winds on Ireland's northern shores. Reading such treasures far from their native context left me cold, but whiskey in front of a log fire in a back room in the harbour bar in Portrush helped me to see things in a different light and I passed my exams.
