On my way to church this morning, a ladybug encountered me on my left hand. Ladybugs are my favorite bug, except for some caterpillars and butterflies of course. This one had six dots on its red body as it crawled around my index finger a few times. Did you know, if you come across a ladybug in your garden or in a walk, it can bring you good luck? Make your wish known to her and watch her fly away to grant your wish. Well I shook her off my hand instead of making my wish, unless I did it in silence. The ladybug is a symbolism good luck, blessings and dreams. The meaning is spiritual devotion, finding true happiness. And it grants wishes in animal magic? Have you came across a ladybug before and had your wish come true?

Many years ago I was on holiday on the south coast of England. There was a plague of ladybugs. Bus drivers couldn't start their buses because the whole windshield was covered with ladybugs. I have no idea why people think that these bugs are symbols of good luck. It's nonsense, of course, albeit a harmless one.

That's what people believed back then. I'm all for it like lucky four-leaf clovers. That's crazy to hear about those buses.

@sgbrown Oh yikes Sheila. No fun. I rather have one or two ladybugs that a plague of them.

It's possible it was Japanese beetles on those buses and not the common ladybug afterall. Ladybugs are usually red and Japanese beetles are more orange, and they can bite and wreck havoc with plants and trees. I agree it's nonsense that they might be lucky.

I didn't know that you could make a wish on a lady bug. I always have some around my flower beds. I will have to start "talking" to them and see if they will bring me some good luck! :)

Go for it. It couldn't hurt. I wonder if they would come to my container patio garden this spring.

I've never made a wish before. I love to take photos of them, they are amazing. The photo is one I took about 3 years ago.

I haven't seen a ladybug yet this year, and I never have thought to make a wish on them.

@KristenH Sometimes if they stay too long on your hand, they will bite

@AnneEJ Yikes! This ladybug was on for a few seconds. I wonder why they would bite.

No it bit me... I'm not big fans of them any more. They are pretty to look at but they can take quite the chunk out of your body part... whatever it may be.

@KristenH It's funny... they never bit me until someone mentioned the fact to me. The minute I learned of it... one bit me!

To me they mean good luck for my plants, since they find aphids tasty.

Regardless of what you believe about insects, bugs or clover, there is no way they can bring luck or blessings. God wants our spiritual devotion to be directed toward him and him alone.

I don't kill them when we have any. Simply put them back outside.

Good idea. When I lived in my former apartment, there was an infestation of them on my window. I would love to see more this spring.

I didn't know about that, too. I knew about how they bring luck. The more the merrier over my way.
