You have to know what a small southern town we live in (well, we actually live in the country), but we seldom get international travelers. Years ago a friend of mine from our junior high days together in NJ came for a visit from her home in Scotland. My Grannie wrote a piece for our local newspaper about our visitor from Scotland. Now, I could just see the editor of our very small newspaper thinking, "There's no way someone from Scotland would be visiting here. She must mean Scotland Neck." So the article proudly announced that my friend from Scotland Neck had paid a visit here. (That's another small town just down the road!) Of course, that was so typical of our little local paper, always full of errors!

Lol, funny story. I got a ticket in a small town for having a tail light out and the paper reported that I was driving around with no headlights on. So, I know how little local papers can mess things up. Since then, I quit reading it. I've seen plenty of errors in the big papers too.

I've always wanted to be a proof reader at the paper, but they don't seem to think they need one!

I can remember what excitement there used to be if an American turned up in our town somewhere. It was like they were from outer space.

That's funny. The world seems so much smaller now...our newspaper might would even get it right this time.

I think I would be annoyed with that if I was Grannie.

Not that I know of. Back then it was a big deal if we had a visitor from Virginia!

You're right, we don't get very many visitors from other parts of the world.

They sure made a mistake. Did you have them correct the error?

No, we just laughed about it. They probably would have made it even worse!

It's always been a joke here about who could find the most errors and typos! Of course, most people post events on FB, rather than the newspaper now.

Even if it was some time ago, the editor should have contacted your Grannie to make sure before making the change.

How funny. Why would he think that a visit from a local friend would need mention? That editor was not on his game!
