I See Diamonds Everywhere

Canada

The photo above was taken by me while in Florida years ago. I have always loved the diamonds that show up on the ocean or a lake or a river in the sunshine. There is beauty in those diamonds. I also like the ones we wear on our bodies... It reminded me of Paul Simon's song "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes" It was 1986. I loved the song, as my kids would say it has a catchy beat.. I never did figure out why they had diamonds on the bottom of their feet. According to Paul there was no message in the song but the background was taped in South Africa and he used many Natives to sing and chant with him. He also brought them to New York with him and they were on Saturday Night Live. 1986 was an important year in my life. We had recently moved to Canada and I was loving living there. My children were loving it too. We were one big happy family. We adopted our third child when there was a death in the family. It was the first year my sister and I took our kids camping My mother and Dad had come from New York by train to see us and our beautiful home on the shore of Lake Ontario. There were diamonds on Lake Ontario too. My mother died that winter. It broke my heart. Sometimes you have no control over what one photo can say to you......... But it's good to listen when they do talk.

You might want to look it up on you tube, the African beat and sounds is wonderful. I don't wear diamonds either, I prefer sapphires but I do love sparkly,....

That is a lovely photo, loaded with memories. I took a photo of the diamonds on the Intercostal before we left Florida for home, as a reminder of how lucky we are.

Yes, I love these moments too. That is one reason to go cruising, because you get to see the wonders of the sea in different ways.

I agree with you that there's always a flood of memories that can fill a mind when we gaze into a picture, especially one like that that we can all relate to. I felt my heart broke when I lost my Dad, and its a coincidence that you've brought up this discussion today because I thought of him and my mother a lot last night. By the way, 1986 was a special year for me too, that was the year that I became engaged.

1986 was an interesting year. it was painful with two deaths in my family but I grew up a lot that year at the age of 31.

@PainsOnSlate , breathtaking, is what I call that photo! Photos can talk, revive memories. I love that song by Paul Simon too. Sorry about your Moms passing that year and for past sorrows. I love the sun on water. :)

One of my favorite songs in the world is about diamonds in the sea. Have you heard it? I remember diamonds from Santa Barbara.
