Canada Geese on a Stroll

Spring is here and the Canadian geese have been flying overhead, headed for a small lake that is just north of us. We have 2 small ponds on our property, but they never seem to attract the geese. Over the last week, I have been very excited to see 2 geese hanging out at our front pond. They don't really seem to be nesting here as neither of them seem to be spending much time in any one place. Instead they simply seem to hang out, walking around the edges of the pond and on this day, they even took a stroll up the driveway. I would love for the to nest here and have little baby geese to watch! Maybe I will get a surprise one day and see some little goslings following behind them!

I would give up fishing on that pond until they are gone. I would rather see the babies and fish on the back pond. I know they can be aggressive, I have been chased off by a goose before. I wandered too close to a nest, that I didn't see. Scared the rain out of me for a little while! :)

@crazyhorseladycx I am probably going to get stupid and try to get closer to the geese and get some pictures. We will see what happens. I might need some clean drawers as well! :)

I live along the Kankakee River in Illinois and the geese never leave anymore, while they are beautiful they are becoming a problem. Beautiful photo

@fishtiger58 There are a large number of geese that stay year around at the larger lake, about 20 miles from us. I do know that they can be a problem sometimes, eating all the grass and leaving so much goose poop! Thank you for your kind comment on my picture! :)

@sgbrown Yup it's the goose poop that is the problem, they have just ruined a park on the river near my home. You can't even walk in the grass anymore.

@fishtiger58 That's pretty gross! I don't know what they can do about it either. That's too bad.

This is the first time in 15 years we have had geese hang around our house! I don't know why they have decided to visit us now, but I am glad they are here! :)

Perhaps they are sussing out the place, working out if it is a good spot for a nest. Hopefully you'll be lucky. :)

We've never seen their nests but every year we see at least a few families wandering about.

While we were driving yesterday, we noticed 4 little goslings following behind the parents by a pond on one of our neighbors places. They were so cute! Just tiny little puff balls! I would really love to see some here on our place!
