How many of You Love to Bargain?

Bargaining is a popular concept among the shoppers of India, who love street shopping. In our city, Kolkata, there are some shopping areas like the Esplanade, Hatibagan, Gariahat, where a number of lucrative items are displayed on the road everyday by the hawkers. Everything that you need can be found here, like dresses, accessories, jewelry, bags, home decor, cosmetics and what not! The main thing is that the shoppers start their bargain from the half price and buying things in the cheapest price is a fun. I also love street shopping though there are a number of malls these days. This is a real fun. I prefer light bargaining, I cannot fight over 20 Rs for 20 minutes. So, what is your concept of street shopping and bargaining?

I hardly bargain. I only do so when I think the item is over priced. But street bargains are already bargains which means cheap so I don't ask for a much lower price. I feel sorry to the merchant

Okay that's nice thought. But the thing is that as the shop owner knows that people will bargain, they always overprice

@arundhatiwriter I know but overpricing for me means exceedingly acceptable. I want people to continue earning for a living.

I follow half rate approach if I am bargaining at such places. I mean I dont discuss much, I give my quote and then move out of shop,if the shopkeeper calls back good, which he may usually do, if he still has some margin, other wise better luck next time.

Do you ever go back if the shop owner doesn't call? I feel very uncomfortable at this though I have seen people doing this

@arundhatiwriter Haha good observation, I never go back if shopkeeper does not callback within 10 seconds of me leaving the shop. However I have seen my relatives will go back to that shop after going through market and conforming that they may not get that the product at the desired price and will tell shopkeeper with full arrogance ..ok give it...

Yeah i do this too esp If i buy in stall and in markets. We haggle the price until both of us agreed to a price much lesser than previously offered.

I think there is nothing wrong to buy goods on the street. It is just being practical.

I agree. Sometimes street shops can give better items on lower prices, truly!

I don't usually haggle prices on stores or even street vendors. If I need something, I save up for it and buy it on the given price...

I am bad on bargaining Still I try in a decent way. However, if the quality is good then only I buy else no matter how cheap it is, I won't compromise.
