I'll feel guilty..

My wedding anniversary is coming up in 2 weeks. We'll have been married for 13 years. Due to lack of money we've never done much of anything special for ourselves on our anniversary. Unfortunately we have my birthday and Mother's day around the same time, and my oldest son's birthday is a week after our anniversary.. so most years all our extra money goes towards my son's birthday and we don't celebrate any of the other holidays in the time frame. So I ended up booking a hotel room for my husband and I out near Niagara Falls. We're going to spend 1 night in that area and go see the Falls, which I've never seen in my life and he hasn't seen since he was a small child. I feel guilty because we're not bringing the kids. My kids haven't been able to do or see much due to our lack of finances, and seeing Niagara Falls would be really cool for them... but this is an anniversary gift for me and my husband, and while I could bring the kids, we opted for a night to ourselves as we've never really had one before (I had a child when I met him, and our twins were born before we were married, we've spent most of our lives being parents). So on one hand I feel totally justified by having this be for me and hubby only.. but on the other hand I do feel a little guilty for not bringing the kids, and I'm sure the whole time I'm there I'll be missing the kids and thinking about how much they'd love to be there. I guess I'll just have to plan another trip up there in the near future so we can bring the kids. We're already planning a trip to Hershey Park, PA this summer with the kids... Do you ever feel guilty for doing stuff without your kids? When was the last time you had a romantic getaway without the kids?

Don't let even a glimmer of regret spoil your well-deserved - and very short - break away. You have spent many years going without so just enjoy the moment. And they're getting a trip later. Have a wonderful time.

Thanks, it's hard not to think of them though as I've spent their whole lives being so focused on them and not myself.

Just think about how refreshing yourselves as a couple just refreshes yourselves as parents. It's true, and I hope you guys enjoy it. You deserve it!

I booked our hotel through Groupon. It was a very nice hotel and I got it pretty cheap.

It is VERY important to have some time for yourselves. If you take care of each other as a couple, your kids will have a better family life.

I'm sorry to hear about the health issues. I've never had a romantic getaway at all.. I've barely had any kind of getaway. I am really looking forward to this one!

I would feel guilty as well but it is important to remember that sometimes you need to do something for just the two of you. I hope you enjoy your anniversary getaway!
