Trying to Outsmart My Computer

Yesterday and for a few days now it seems that there are times of definite slow downs on the Internet. So today I got some work done and watched a movie before coming on here. I also played on one of my games as well to take up some time. I know it meant I would be missing out on what all of you are doing, but hopefully it will also keep my computer running smoothly so I can read and interact and even get this posted without any delays. So I'm trying to outsmart the computer and hoping it will work. Do you have any tricks to outsmart your computer when it runs into all kinds of delays? Thanks for reading.

I hope both of them are free. I expect one is. Sometimes I wish I knew as much about computers as they do.

I log out for a while when my computer slows down and then usually when I come back on it is going faster again.

Yeah, I've been doing that too. Had to do it again today as well, even with the late start.

@just4him That is not good then if you had to do it even with a late start.

@Marcyaz So far today is better. I've been on and off though taking care of things. So I haven't given it a chance to slow down.

My computer is not very fast either..but at certain times of the day it gets worse...but here in spain...it's usually down to the amount of people trying to use an already over burdened service...for example it slows right down at 1.45... which just happens to be when the kids come home from school for siesta... so I can't blame it all on my computer ...lol's

Then that's the time not to be on the Internet, because all the kids will be.

@just4him but the computers are made by men, surely we are smarter than these computers right?

@ridingbet You would think so, but there are some areas men excel at, not many, mind you, and this could be one of those areas, just to get back at us women who know we're better than they are, and smarter too, I might add.

My computer works for a couple hours then slows down. So I didn't have the success I thought I would have.

@MGjhaud It's the Internet because when I work on the computer, it's fine, no lags.

it could be the ISP (internet service provider) issue.

@Drosophila That would no doubt cost me a lot of money I don't have. I'm going to be getting a brand new, not used computer as soon as I have my inheritance and I don't know when that will be.

Hi Valerie. I try to outsmart my computer all the time. It is a game of cat and mouse, tag, and sometimes pin the tail on the donkey. Sometimes I try doing a system recovery. But, what can you do if there is a gremlin or ghost in the machine?

I had a few problems just the other day, so I took a big time out and ran a defrag on my computer to see if that would speed things up at all, and it did. It meant being offline for quite some time, but I always have other things I can be doing. :) Today I had a problem with the computer trying to kill a possible virus or other threat, so I had to run a full scan. But I think I need to run those more often now anyway. :)

@just4him It's really good when you get those notices. I get them sometimes when my program wants to know what I want to do with the problems.

My computer slows down after I have been using it for awhile. I think it has to do with scripts continuing to work and not closing the way they should. Anyway, sometimes I am forced to restart it, then it seems to be okay. Also, I use Firefox and it sometimes acts up, so I have to close it and start over.

I use Chrome. I don't think it matters what browser a person uses. The computer has a mind of it's own and you can't outsmart it.

I do not notice an regularity to my slowdowns. I do know it seems to work the best around 5-8 a.m. and from 10 pm to midnight for me. I am up and down a lot from here anyway.

I'm never up that early, that's just a couple hours after I go to bed. 10 PM - midnight seems very good on here, I agree.

Somebody has a new user name. You know pockits is spelled wrong right? I figure it was on purpose. I like it by the way. Someone said computers were invented by men, and since it's the only thing they can do with any measure of capability, because they certainly can't compete anywhere else with women, I'll let them have this one area of expertise, while I curse their expertise and my computer when it acts up

I usually turn it off and come back later and the computer acts smarter then.

I don't have any tricks, but I hope yours works! Is it the computer itself or the Internet giving you delays?

I think for the most part it's the Internet because it isn't all the time. Though it could also be the computer. It's not brand new, a bit older, so that could also be a factor.
